Apple iPhone 5S has finally released with the iOS 8.1! It is not however one of the typical Apple updates with a lot of goodies to offer. Unlike the iOS 8 update, which introduced a lot of changes for the Apple iPhone 5S users, the iOS 8.1 update hasn’t made that many changes.
iOS 8.1 gives the Apple iPhone 5S a fresh camera-roll look in the Photos app for the users who have iCloud Photo Libraries enabled on their devices. This feature allows you to keep your favorite pictures in all the Apple devices that you own.
The iPhone 5S has a passbook app, which can now be easily shared with other devices from the brand. It also allows the user to give dictations for messaging on the phone without having to enable Siri. iOS 8.1 enables Apple geeks to manually choose their preferred internet connection that they wish to run on their iPhone, by visiting the network settings.
The iOS 8.1 update includes Apple Pay, enabling mobile payment. However, it does nothing for the Apple iPhone 5S users because they have to get an Apple iWatch in order to use Apple Pay. Apple provides their iWatch users the complete benefit of using Apple Pay.
Apple iPhone 5S users will benefit from the iOS 8.1 update if they use Mac as well. Users should get their Mac OS X Yosemite update along with iOS 8.1. This allows users to take calls and send messages across all devices from Apple. The Continuity feature allows a user to resume browsing the web from where they had left off, on their Mac or iPad.
The battery life of the Apple iPhone 5S is not affected by the iOS 8.1 update. One would feel that with new apps and features, the battery life would bear the strain, but surprisingly, it isn’t so! With the iOS 8.1 update, the users have noticed one immediate bug fix to an earlier version. The lock screen that took a long time to open after typing the password or using the Touch ID fingerprint reader opens instantaneously.
Apple iPhone 5S users can switch between apps and play games as smoothly as they did on the previous iOS. The display responds smoothly to the user’s multi-touch.
The most important bug fix on the iOS 8.1 update was an improvement to the Camera app. With the previous iOS, there was a lag for a few seconds when the rear camera was accessed and ready to click a photo. This problem has been fixed on the latest update.
