Some have been critical of the progress Apple have made in iOS 10, claiming that things have been coming along too slowly. But it’s clear that Apple have a vision for the system and they are moving forward with their ideas, so all fans can do is look towards the future and wait for even more improvements.
iOS 10 is actually quite good in many aspects, according to critics, and the operating system delivers nicely in aspects which were a bit poorly realized before. It became more polished and refined, and even though the most major improvements are under the hood and not directly visible, people were still generally pleased with the way things work as a whole.
The OS became more consistent in its visuals, something which was a bit of a poor feature for it before, at least in the last few iterations. Apple seem to have had some internal conflicts regarding the looks of iOS 9, but that’s no longer the case, as the new version looks fresh and tight.
On the other hand, some of the company’s decisions in this regard have been brought under question, such as the redesign of the action center. Perhaps these are temporary quirks that will get ironed out eventually, as otherwise the operating system gives a great impression with the way its menus look and feel.
Performance has seen a strong improvement as well, although iOS 10 also requires adequate hardware in order to benefit from those new speeds. Those who do more active multitasking on their devices should notice a more consistent and reliable experience when switching between apps, although it’s of course hard to quantify the exact range of those improvements.
Security is another aspect that has been a major priority for Apple recently, and this is becoming even more obvious with iOS 10. The company has been putting a lot of effort into locking the OS down and preventing people from tampering with it.
And while this should come as good news to most of their fans, some are actually displeased with the situation. The new security improvements have reportedly made it even more difficult to jailbreak iOS devices, continuing a long debate between the company and its fans that has been going on for quite a long time so far.
Many people claim that Apple should actually stop fighting against jailbreakers, and let people do what they want with their iOS devices, accepting all risks. However, we’ve seen some incidents over the last few months which made it obvious that there is actually a point in Apple watching over all of their users carefully to prevent incidents like this.
A series of malware attacks targeting iOS jailbreak users made it clear that there is a need for the added security that Apple have been fighting for, although some still claim that there might be a reasonable middle ground that doesn’t involve keeping the system so tightly restricted.
Apple have already been putting some effort in this regard as well though, such as allowing their users to sideload apps under certain conditions.
It may not be perfect, but it’s probably the most the company can do right now in light of the overall situation. Perhaps in the future they will be able to open up iOS even more, once they’ve implemented some more advanced security features that block attackers from gaining serious access to the system’s internals.
