Apple Granted Bendable Phone Patent: Will It Make a Difference to the Apple iPhone 7?

So much for the #bendgate phenomenon – A patent awarded to Apple on 6th January 2015 suggests that Apple will finally have the means to design and develop “foldable mobile devices.” Having had a good experience with foldable gadgets very recently, we think that the Californian juggernauts are set to transform their past mistakes into future profit by getting license to develop phones with foldable display screens.

Though this might not be the first time the world has seen a phone with curved display (first was brand LG, which introduced its LG G Flex curved display mobile phone sometime in 2014). When LG released the phone, they claimed that a phone, which could be curved, would be able to take on much more pressure situations and stiff drops than a phone with a flat display.

Judging by the flow of the wind, this patent could very well be pointing towards our next best Apple device, which will launch towards the end of this year – The Apple iPhone 7. The patent, which has been granted to Apple, explains in details the method of folding a smartphone without damaging the internal components or the display of the phone.

The patent further describes in detail certain things that would be required in a bendable phone or certain attributes that are must for a bendable phone. They are as follows:

1. Flexible displays
2. Flexible touchscreen
3. Flexible housing
4. Flexible batteries
5. Flexible printed circuits

The names of 6 California Apple Employees are listed amongst the names of the makers of this patent.
The patent justifies the need for a foldable display in the future by stating that rigid electronic devices would be susceptible to breaking or damage in case of sudden impact situations like drop from a height, etc. Foldable displays would be able to withstand impacts and pressure situations in a much better way.

One more thing, the patent described, is different ways a phone could be folded to make it more compact – though we could imagine some of the companies making use of such technology in the future – but it is definitely not going to be Apple.

Interesting news is that Apple might be looking at OLED displays in the future. The Californian brand has forever been into LED screens as we all know, but this is going to be a great change. This news is backed by a Japanese Newspaper called Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun.

Apple iPhone 7

If you remember, a few months ago there were some rumors that Foxconn along with one of its subsidiary companies had invested $2.6 B in a factory for manufacturing units for just a single customer. Though we were unsure of whom that customer might be, but now we are 100% sure that it has been Apple all through the way. Only a brand like Apple can hire Foxconn for such a large venture. So Foxconn will be manufacturing OLED screens for Apple for both the iPhone 7 and the iWatch.
