Stephen Curry dished out another Most Valuable Player (MVP) performance in the Golden State Warriors’ game against the Dallas Mavericks on February 4 exploding for 51 points and leading his team in a come-from-behind victory.
The Warriors were down by as much as 22 points in the first quarter when Curry decided to take over the game and began hitting his shots. He made 10 three-pointers during the game and was 10 of 16 from beyond the arc and 16 of 26 from the field overall.
The score was pegged at 40-18 when Golden State Coach Steve Kerr called for a timeout. Stephen Curry said during the huddle that he is going to let it fly and bring the team back. True enough he single-handedly brought Golden State to the game. The score was already pegged at 62-58 during the half, with the Mavs still holding a precarious four-point lead.
By the end of the third quarter, the score was already 101-98 in favor of the Warriors and Stephen Curry has already piled up 41 points and nine three pointers by then.
Good feel and good rhythm
Curry said that he felt having a good rhythm during the game that’s why when he started seeing daylight through the pick and roll, he started shooting and making his shots.
Aside from his superb shooting, the No. 1 vote-getter in the upcoming NBA All-Star game and an MVP candidate this season, showcased his dribbling ability to help the NBA-leading warriors 39-8 to complete their biggest comeback of the season in front of the home crowd numbering to 19,956, reports Yahoo! News.
With the game almost decided and the score pegged at 125-113 with 1:35 remaining in the fourth quarter, Stephen Curry drilled his 10th three pointer of the night by stepping back as his shot went swishing through the net. That got the crowd so mesmerized and they started chanting M-V-P.
Praised by opponents too
The performance of Stephen Curry did not just impress the Golden State Warriors and the hometown crowd, but also Dallas Mavericks Coach Rick Carlisle.
Carlisle said Curry just had one of those extra special nights where he can shoot the lights out of any building. The Mavericks coach said that he has never seen anybody in the league who can hit shots from that distance.
Even Tyson Chandler of the Dallas Mavericks was all praises for Curry. He said that Curry can usually hit spot-up shots but during the game, he was hitting shots even in traffic including tough and sometimes almost amazing floaters. He had an incredible all-around game that’s why we lost, Chandler said.
The Warriors will be facing the Atlanta Hawks next on February 6 which is the battle of the two best teams in the NBA. In fact, if the playoff started today, Golden State and Atlanta will be the top seeds in their respective conference.
