Angelina Jolie Commended by US Secretary of State for Her Personal Leadership and Commitment on the Global Refugee Crisis!

US Secretary of State John Kerry has commended actress Angelina Jolie for her personal leadership and commitment to the issue of global refugee crisis during the celebration of World Refugee Day on June 20 at Washington D.C.

Jolie serves as the Special Envoy for the United Nations’ High Commission for Refugees and she met with Secretary John Kerry before attending the interfaith reception held in Sterling, Virginia.

In a statement during the celebration, the actress said that she felt honored to mark the World Refugee Day with Secretary Kerry in the US, adding that it was quite moving to share the occasion with Americans from all faiths and backgrounds, united in support of refugees worldwide, and understanding the importance of the occasion, details People.

The “Lara Craft: Tomb Raider” actress said that the initiative has connected every nation, faith, and people on earth even through cultural diversity.

She added that World Refugee Day is a day to remember that everyone’s diversity and openness to the world is a source of strength that everyone can draw on.

The number of refugees all over the world is now at an all-time historical high of 65 million.

A lifetime commitment

Kerry said that Angelina Jolie has been working on the issue for years. It is not a passing fancy for her but a lifetime commitment, according to the US Secretary of State.

Jolie explained that the current refugee problem is a worldwide threat, and any attempt to ignore it would be naïve, irresponsible, and dangerous.

She said that it is important for everyone to grasp the magnitude of the global refugee crisis because it has a telling impact on the peace and security of the world. She said that people should understand that the 65 million people displaced by conflict and wars cannot be ignored.

The actress said that there have to be new approaches to solving the problem. She urged nations to come together and find a new approach which does not focus solely on aid and resettlement but on solution, stability, and returns.

Jolie and Kerry addressed the rising intolerance and xenophobia growing out of the conflict, a subtle swipe at presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who has threatened to build a wall to keep immigrants and refugees out of the United States.

A faithful UN worker

Angelina Jolie has been working with the UN since 2001 and has been part of over 50 missions for the institution.

The actress actually took on the heavy topic during the celebration of the World Refugee Day with a modest outfit, wearing a gray suit that was not over the top but still has some flair.

Her blazer featured a zipper down the front and peplum frills at each side, and her pencil skirt hit her right below the knee. She topped off her outfit with classic accessories, including diamond studs and black pumps, details Popsugar.

The following day, Angelina Jolie was spotted with her two sons Maddox and Knox at the JFK Airport and the actress looked ever the doting mother.

The actress demonstrated her motherly instincts to her two sons while walking through the busy terminal as she held hands with her seven-year-old Knox while the 14-year-old Maddox followed behind them.

Just like the day before, Angelina Jolie looked very sophisticated and stylish, sporting a black midi dress with a sheer detailing around the shoulders, notes the Daily Mail.
