Google is almost done with the testing phase for Android 7.1.1 Nougat, and the official release date is December 5. Yahoo! Tech reported that the Nexus 6P model would get a wireless update for NMF26F, which will update the Android 7.1 Nougat to Android 7.1.1.
While all the Google devices will get the update and shift to Android 7.1.1 Nougat, Nexus, and Pixel devices will be the first to get the device and is likely to see the update to Android 7.1.1 Nougat on 5th December itself.
The tech site also reported that the Android 7.1.1 update might also be available for the US devices via a wireless network as well as system images. These will be provided by Google for manual installation.
The Android 7.1.1 Nougat update will give the users a new App shortcut, 3D Touch similar to the one used in Apple devices. The Nougat update will also help the users further customize the app icons; the app icon can now be made circular with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The users will also get the option to add color to the keyboard.
OEMs will use the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update as the official software to update their handsets to Google’s new operating system. No official statement has been provided about when non-Pixel and non-Nexus devices will get the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update. Reports suggest that several devices that have already received the Android 7.0 Nougat update might not receive the update.
Huawei Nexus 6P users have been asked to fully charge their devices before they download the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update. The manufacturers have also advised the users to make a backup of all their photos, contacts and messages before they start to install the new update. When the Firmware Over-The-Ai (FOTA) update is available, the users will be prompted. They can subsequently download the update from the System update option About tab in the Settings menu.
Reports suggest that within the first 13 days, over 10,000 phones will get the update. The selection will be random, and the users will be notified. If not, they can also check for the update manually.
From the fourth day, 10% of the other eligible users will be selected every day for the update. These users might not get the FOTA Push Message notification and might have to check for the update on their own. From the fourteenth day of the launch of Android 7.1.1 Nougat, the rest of the eligible devices will get the notification for the update.
Google hasn’t provided the timeline, mentioned above. The users should wait for the official statement by Google before they start checking for their Android 7.1.1 Nougat update.
Nougat has introduced some interesting changes to the operating system. The first feature that has impressed the users is the Quick Switch. This feature allows the user to jump between the two most recently used apps by double tapping on the Overview button. The overview button is the square button at the bottom, which helps the user navigate between the different tabs.
Nougat has also introduced a large library of brand new emojis. There are over 1500 different characters in the library. Some users have already started using the option where they can tap and select the skin color of the emojis.
The Multi-window option in Android Nougat is another great feature that Google has introduced. The feature lets two apps run side-by-side on the tablet or smartphone.
The user can open the app and long press the Overview button. The app will immediately shrink and fill the upper half of the screen, and the user can pick the other app that they want to simultaneous keep opened.
