Google is under pressure these days to finally unveil the major firmware update to its highly-touted Android 5.0 Lollipop that was released on November 12, 2014 but was riddled with bugs and issues that it actually felt short of the hype and hoopla.
In January, Google announced that it will be rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop on February starting with the Nexus and Motorola devices, which were also the first devices that got the Android 5.0 Lollipop when it rolled out last year.
They were also the first devices that had to suffer from the bugs, glitches, and issues that came with the embattled mobile operating system from Google.
But come mid-February, Google changed its tune and announced that it is delaying the release of the Android 5.1 Lollipop to March.
Now that March has already set in, Google has yet to make an announcement about the status of the release of the firmware update to the Lollipop, so everyone again was again dependent on speculations and rumors.
Finally coming
While Google has yet to make an official announcement, reports as well as speculations are rife that Android 5.1 Lollipop will roll out to Google Nexus 7 within the next few days if not sooner. But it would be the 2013 version of the Nexus 7 initially, reports Android Geeks.
This is pretty much consistent with the statement from Google when it launched the Android One program in the Philippines and Indonesia late in February that Android 5.1 Lollipop will finally be coming in two weeks time or less.
This was also confirmed by HTC executive Mo Versi in his latest tweet that the firmware update to the Lollipop will hit the Nexus 7 around the first week of March.
Unofficial arrival
While nearly everyone else is looking on the direction of the Google Nexus 7, 2013 edition, for the impending arrival of the Android 5.1 Lollipop, it seems that Motorola is pulling the rug from under and stealing the thunder from Nexus already.
There have been leaked images of the 1st gen of Moto G already running on Android 5.1 Lollipop which have been making the rounds in the internet in the past few days. But it is obviously unofficial as Motorola has yet to get clearance from Google to roll out the firmware update.
A Google Plus user actually posted the images of the 1st gen Moto G running on the Android 5.1 Lollipop and he says that his source is a friend who works in Motorola. He also describe that the new mobile operating system is already bug-free in the Moto G.
He also added that all other Motorola smartphones that are superior to the Moto G will automatically get updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop once the firmware update gets cleared for roll out by Google.
Some Motorola smartphones including the 1st gen Moto X have yet to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop as of this time so it is also likely that they will go straight to Android 5.1 Lollipop.
