While several big name smartphone manufacturers are still anticipating the release of Google’s latest mobile operating system, the Android 5.0 Lollipop, on their flagship smartphones and other devices, the Android 5.1 Lollipop is also just around the bend waiting for the perfect time to launch.
The Android Pit got wind of information that the first major system update to the Lollipop is about to arrive by the end of February 2015, which is a month away from today.
Android 5.1 Lollipop is a large update and shall focus on several issues that have hounded the Android 5.0 Lollipop almost to no end, and which the Android 5.0.1 and Android 5.0.2 were not able to completely fix.
Accordingly, the Android 5.1 Lollipop shall be returning the silent mode which was absent from the Android 5.0 Lollipop, general improvements in system stability, RAM management, improved battery management, excessive consumption of network devices when using Wi-Fi, issues with wireless connections, problems with Okay Google function, notification problems, some sound problems experienced by some devices, changes in material design color palette, and other improvements and changes.
Difference between Android 5.1 and Android 5.0.1
Lest some users might be confused but the Android 5.1 is different from the Android 5.0.1. The former is a major system update while the latter is merely a patch that contains bug fixes.
The patch, which is a collection of bug fixes, rolled out to Nexus devices in December. The next patch, the Android 5.0.2 was unveiled early in January 2015 to those who already have the Android 5.0 Lollipop on their devices.
The Android 5.1 Lollipop is a new system update typical with the Jelly Bean mobile operating system which had three major system update previously. In effect, it is also an admission of Google that the highly touted Android 5.0 Lollipop has had a problematic release.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop was so riddled with bugs, glitches and issues that barely four months after its official roll out on November 12, 2014, a major system update is about to put it out of its miseries and quietly eased it out of the picture.
Fantastic but problematic
Still, despite its drawbacks, many who are really aware of how excellent the Android 5.0 Lollipop is, believe that the latest Google mobile operating system is a fantastic update.
It’s just that it was so laden with bugs and issues that necessitate a quick fix, which was what was provided by the Android 5.0.1 and subsequently the Android 5.0.2.
Regardless of the update patches however, it is important for Android users to understand that the Android 5.1 Lollipop will basically maintain the material design of the Lollipop.
It’s just that it has to have sweeping changes on the Android 5.0 Lollipop to ensure that all other bugs, glitches and issues that were remained unsolved by the patches Android 5.0.1 and Android 5.0.2 will finally be fixed for good measure.
