Android 5.1 Lollipop Brings Stability Improvements and Performance Tweaks to Google’s Nexus 10

Google’s Nexus 10 tablet is the latest mobile device to take on the over-the-air OTA update of the Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Tech Times details that the firmware update to Google’s latest mobile operating system comes with a total of 104.4 MB of stability improvements, performance tweaks and all-important bug fixes to Nexus 10, the same way it did to the first few Nexus devices that have already taken on the Android 5.1 Lollipop since its official roll out on March 9.

Nexus 10 tablet users were among the heaviest to complain of the bugs and performance issues when the Android 5.0 Lollipop rolled out in November last year. And despite Google releasing three patches since November last year, it was not enough to address all the problems that its highly touted but problematic mobile operating system brought forth.

Ready for installation

With the OTA update to Android 5.1 Lollipop already available, Nexus 10 users can already install the firmware update anytime they want to.

However, in order to install the Android 5.1 Lollipop to their Google Nexus 10 tablet, they should make sure that it is charged at least 50% of the battery life since the update would take a significant amount of power to complete.

A few days ago, Google has also made the factory image for Android 5.1 Lollipop already available. As many users are not really familiar with working with factory images so they are advised to just wait for the OTA update on their devices to be able to install the firmware update with greater ease.

Since the Android 5.1 Lollipop rolled out to the Nexus devices, majority of the users have recognized that it has indeed solved the bugs, problems and other issues that came with the Android 5.0 Lollipop.

However, the Nexus 5, which received the Android 5.1 Lollipop first, seems to be having memory leak problems after the firmware update. Accordingly, the problem happens when apps running in the background eat up as much as 100 MB of RAM, which eventually leads to the system consuming up to 1GB of RAM, causing the OS to crash.

More improvements

Overall however, the Android 5.1 Lollipop is a lot better than the Android 5.0 Lollipop. In addition to bug fixes, stability improvements, and performance tweaks, it also came with major improvements.

The obviously faster boot time of the firmware update is one of the most prominent improvements of the Android 5.1 Lollipop. There is also the Device Protection feature, which enables users to secure their devices against theft and unauthorized use by locking the device unless the original user’s Google account is opened. The good thing about this feature is that it cannot be removed even if the device is reset.

The firmware update has also enabled users to access quick settings from the lock screen. They can also toggle their Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, as well as other settings via the lock screen. And finally, there’s the HD voice calling but is limited to devices that are compatible with the technology which at the moment is only featured with the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9.
