Google seems to be on a rush these days to get the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop rolled out to as many Android phones in the world as possible as the company is actually under pressure from its own announcement during the Google I/O 2015 held on May 28 and 29 at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco, California.
The American software company has announced that its next mobile operating mobile system Android M will be coming in the third quarter of this year and Google would not want to be caught with the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop still has yet to see the light of day in most Android smartphones in the world.
While the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware update was announced as early as April, it was only towards the last week of May and the first week of June that it has gain steam for its roll out to many smartphones in the world.
As expected, the Google Nexus devices were among the first to receive the firmware update, with several other smartphone makers following suit including Motorola, Samsung, Sony, and several others.
Over at India, the Android One smartphones has started receiving the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and the variants of the handsets that are now getting the firmware update over the air (OTA) are the Micromax Canvas A1, Spice Dream Uno Mi-498, and Karbonn Sparkle V, reports NDTV Gadgets.
Performance improvements
According to users, the update, which has a file size of 11.8 MB for all the three handsets, brings forth performance improvements and overall OS stability for the three Android One devices.
It is also expected to fix the memory leak bug that hounded the Android 5.0 Lollipop as well as the Android 5.1 Lollipop.
Users in India can just check the settings of their smartphone and see if the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is already available for download under the System Updates of the Settings menu of their handsets.
So far, only the Android One smartphones in India are receiving the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware update and it is not yet clear when the Android One in other countries will get the sweetest taste of the Lollipop. Nonetheless, it is expected to roll out to Android One handsets in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka.
Roll out spree
With Google’s announcement of its Android M, it has been keenly noted that there has been a marked increase in the rate of over-the-air updates of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to other Android devices including the Nexus 4, the Nexus 5 and the Nexus 6.
Reports have it that it will just be a matter of time before the update appears on all versions of the rest of the Nexus devices. It has been said that it would take Google some two weeks or more to complete rolling out the update to Nexus devices.
