Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date & Update: Samsung Phones to Finally Get Sweet Taste of Lollipop in January!

The long wait of Samsung users to finally get the sweet taste of the Android 5.0 Lollipop is almost over as Google’s latest mobile operating system is set to roll out to their devices anytime in January 2015.

The new round of excitement stemmed from a post on Reddit by a user who claims to be a Samsung employee. He or she even registered as SamsungRep2015 on Reddit.

Apparently, employees were told by the Samsung management via an e-mail to all stores that they should start preparing their devices for the Lollipop update. The e-mail also gave instructions on how to carry out the preparations.

Backing up his or her post is a copy of an undated e-mail, supposedly from Samsung management, which was also posted on Reddit. The e-mail was quite clear. It said that beginning January 2015, Android devices will start receiving Lollipop OS updates. It was followed by a series of instructions on how the update will roll out, as reported by 9to5Google.

The leaker hinted that the Lollipop may roll out first to Samsung Galaxy S5 to be followed by the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Samsung Galaxy Edge.

The Redditor also said that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Samsung Galaxy S4 would be part of the next wave of devices which shall take on the latest Android mobile operating system. The third wave shall already cover the Samsung tablets.

Growing impatient

While Samsung users in the US and in many parts of the world are still waiting for the over-the-air (OTA) release and update of Android 5.0 Lollipop on their devices, consumers in Spain and Poland are already enjoying the sweet taste of the Lollipop as early as December 2014.

BGR also reports that the leaker has also disclosed information that it is not just the Samsung users who are getting impatient with the roll out of the Android 5.0 Lollipop but also Samsung itself.

In the same Reddit post, he or she revealed that Samsung is already putting pressure on carriers in the US and is now directly involved in an effort to ship the updates faster to its mobile devices. It is for such reason that Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the Korean tech giant’s current flagship mobile devices, will get the updates first, the Redditor added.

The alleged Samsung employee also said that he or she has no idea about the carrier specific tweaks that would come with the roll out of the latest Android OS.

Android Lollipop 5.1

The leaker also went on to disclose that Samsung plans to further streamline its bloatware apps that would combine lots of things together. He or she said that the new features will be awesome but non-intrusive should users choose to ignore them.

But until Samsung confirms these leaks, these are merely speculations at this time.
