“Paranoia” star Amber Heard shared her transition from being Johnny Depp’s girlfriend to the actor’s wife in a recent interview with Elle Magazine. Heard said that she did not feel like there was a dramatic change in her life during the marriage since they have been together for a long time before officially tying the knot and it just seems like the marriage was a fairly organic process.
However being Depp’s wife, this has put so much pressure on her to fit into a Barbie box. She mentioned that she is constantly fighting people’s expectations of her based on how she looks like and who she is with. She said there is something about fame that scares her and that is losing her freedom. The 29-year-old actress said she just wants to have the ability to maintain the freedom and ease she has worked so hard for.
Heard also insisted that unlike what is being said of her in rumors and speculations, she is an independent and free spirit. Since Heard is still an up and coming star in Hollywood, many think that she is just using Depp to acquire fame and popularity. But she claimed that this is never the reason why she married Depp.
Women’s roles are becoming extinct
The actress did not really want to reveal any more personal information to the magazine and said that she would rather talk about her career than some rumors. Speaking of careers, Heard said she fears that women’s role in Hollywood is becoming extinct.
On her personal experience, Heard receives a stack of scripts every month which are mostly roles for female placeholders that provide an added attention to the male lead. She said movie producers need these female characters to show that the guy is funny. The main job of these kinds of roles is to show that the man in the film is strong because the female character needs him.
This could be applied to the role she is playing in the male semi-burlesque movie, “Magic Mike XXL,” alongside Joe Manganiello, Adam Rodriguez, Kevin Nash, Matt Bomer, and Channing Tatum.
She also said that this situation is a saddening injustice since movies are supposed to imitate life. And if films are only allowed to portray women in these roles—uncreative and uninterested—this is how the public will understand the female life.
Heard is a Texas-born actress who started out with the 2005 Academy Award-nominated film, “North Country,” where she played as the younger version of Charlize Theron. In 2009, she starred in the box office movie “Zombieland” together with “Easy A” star Emma Stone and “Social Network” lead actor Jesse Eisenberg. She also appeared in “Pineapple Express” together with James Franco and Seth Rogen. Her role in the movie led her to the 2008 Young Hollywood Award. In 2011, she met Johnny Depp in the movie, “The Rum Diary.”

Heard sounds like a spoilt brat. I have watched countless movies with gorgeous lead women roles. It’s a shame Heard is so narrow minded as she could potentially have the opportunity one day to be in roles that are not shallow and uninteresting like herself. If you are married to Depp and still can’t open your mind obtaining more desirable roles then it’s you Heard that is the problem not the industry. I mean really who says that?
