Real-time strategy computer games “Homeworld” and its sequel “Homeworld 2” will be making a major comeback on the PC on February 25.
Gearbox, which acquired the rights to the video game series from Relic after its parent company THC went bankrupt, will be releasing “Homeworld Remastered Collection” to the Windows PC in what many gaming enthusiasts believe could be a preview of the coming of the game to the modern gaming consoles.
Gearbox is also one of the developers of the action role-playing first person shooter video game “Borderlands.”
Impressive and stunning
The developer recently released gameplay footages of the remastered “Homeworld” and “Homeworld 2” which got gamers very excited because both looked very impressive and stunning.
Gearbox have worked on giving the video games full HD networking capabilities including adding new textures and models, new voice recordings from the original cast and reworked musical scores. The resulting “Homeworld Remastered Collection” is a prize in itself.
Endgadget details that the remake of both “Homeworld” and “Homeworld 2” spruces up every aspect of the two computer games and resulted to much-better looking ship models, effects, and even better cutscenes.
What’s more, purchase of “Homeworld Remastered Collection” shall also give gamers access to the multiplayer beta version of the merged “Homeworld” and “Homeworld 2” as well.
Gamers will finally have the opportunity to relive the Mothership’s journey in a more enhanced game environment that was previously unavailable still when the original “Homeworld” landed on the PC in 1999 and the sequel “Homeworld 2” some four years later.
A prequel in the works
Every time a remastered version of a video game is released, it is likely that the developer is preparing something new up its sleeves.
The idea is to give gamers the feel of the existing game in an all-new improved format before bringing to fore something new to their plate. That is one sure way of building up both excitement and interest to an upcoming video game.
Apparently, that’s the idea of Gearbox as a new brand game on the Homeworld series is about to come too. But instead of a third installment, it would be a prequel which is titled “Homeworld Shipbreakers.”
Gearbox is reportedly collaborating with Blackbird Interactive, a game development studio put up by several people who also developed the “Homeworld” series in the past, for the development of the third game in the very successful computer game series.
Full details remain unavailable as of this time but it is likely that the new game will be coming out soon and given the traditions of most of Gearbox video games, the developer would simply not just settle for a PC edition but also versions for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 as well.
