When Neil Blomkamp announced that he’s working on a new “Alien” film, that led to a lot of confusion – on one hand, the film’s name was changed, a move that was saw as a bit strange by fans; and then it also seemed like it would interfere with “Prometheus 2” to a large extent. However, Blomkamp recently reassured his fans that there will be no problems surrounding the release of either film, and that he’s specifically made changes to the design of the new “Alien” to prevent any issues.
Neil Blomkamp specifically stated that Ridley Scott will be handling the production of the film, and that the two were specifically looking into ways to make the film stand out on its own, and avoid “stepping on the toes” of “Prometheus 2”. And indeed, there was apparently something which the two agreed was a big overlap between the two films, so they ended up changing that detail.
And now, “Alien 5” is moving forward with a revised, unique design, that should please all fans of the franchise while also managing to avoid any interference with “Prometheus 2”. We don’t know what changes were introduced to the new film exactly – but hopefully, its producers know what they’re doing and they aren’t going to cut out any vital parts just to avoid making the film too similar to “Prometheus 2”.
Neil Blomkamp also talked about the naming convention for the new film, confirming that it won’t be called “Alien 5”, and also saying that he has already picked a name for the film and the decision has been finalized. However, Blomkamp didn’t want to actually reveal the new name he had chosen, explaining that it would actually be a pretty big giveaway if he did that.
He went on to say that he saw huge problems with the way the franchise was handled after “Aliens”, and he wanted to revert that and go back to the roots of the original two movies. He’s convinced that the franchise has a huge potential that hasn’t been realized in the slightest, and he’s hoping to explore some of the more interesting possibilities for its future development.
In the end, Neil Blomkamp at least seems quite open on the topic, and isn’t afraid to discuss his ideas with the public, at least in ways that don’t reveal any important plot details. With that in mind, we’ll likely get to hear a lot more about the way the new “Alien” has been coming along in the following months, and maybe the picture of the new film’s setting will start getting a bit clearer. Hopefully, it will be worth the huge anticipation among fans at the moment.
