There were recently some talks about “Alien 5” which led to a lot of confusion among the community. More specifically, the work on “Prometheus 2” could be interfering with the other production on a severe level, and fans have been worried that the situation might have some bad implications for the future of the “Alien” franchise. After it was announced that the new “Prometheus” film would actually be called “Alien: Paradise Lost”, some fans started to suspect that the two franchises have been merged and there won’t actually be a new “Alien” film, at least not in the way it was previously discussed.
According to Ridley Scott, fans shouldn’t be worried – the new “Alien” is still coming, but there are some changes to the whole setup in order to accommodate the other production and ensure that there won’t be any overlap between the two. Scott said that both him and Neill Blomkamp have some slightly different ideas for exploring the “Alien” franchise in detail, and they each want to take a look at it from different perspectives.
Because of this, having both films would still make sense in the general picture and the director is confident that he’s going to see a lot of success among fans of the original “Alien” franchise. Many of them seem to have the opinion that it’s about time they were given a proper sequel, and there was a lot of worrying about the future of the “Alien” films among the community, but thankfully it looks like things are running more or less smoothly right now.
The first film to be released between the two will be “Alien: Paradise Lost”, and it will explore things from the opposite perspective of Ridley Scott’s work, according to him. Ridley Scott is apparently exploring the story related to Ripley and everything that has to do with that character, while Blomkamp is planning to take a look at other aspects of the “Alien” universe and give fans a glimpse of their favorite characters from a slightly different point of view.
We still don’t know what “Alien 5” is actually going to be named, however – this is another aspect that has been confusing fans, and there isn’t a solid answer to that question right now. We’re starting to doubt that the film will actually be called “Alien 5”, because that would make the situation very difficult for those who are following both franchises.
If “Prometheus” is going to preserve its new naming scheme, then obviously they can’t give “Alien 5” that name anymore, as it would imply that they are both parts of the same franchise. And while they obviously share lots of similarities, they’ve always been seen as separate productions and each one is focused on different aspects. Naming them both “Alien” would make the situation very strange for fans, and not in a good way – there is no benefit to gain from merging the franchises like that.
On the other hand, according to fans, the idea to name the next “Prometheus” like that was also strange – if both franchises are now getting new names, this would make things very difficult to navigate for fans in the future, and it will make the situation quite confusing if more sequels start coming out too. We don’t even know if the new naming will be preserved in new installments as well or if it’s just temporary, but the latter would make even less sense in the grand scheme of things.
