Some types of allergies can have a drastic impact on those who suffer from them, and while in most cases people are just forced to avoid eating certain kinds of foods or touching certain materials, there are some people out there who have to live their lives very carefully due to a particularly nasty allergy. Anna Lyndsey is one such person, as her allergy to sunlight means she has to live her life in constant darkness.
Talking about her condition, she says that she wasn’t actually born with it, but rather developed it at a later stage in her life. After she had bought an apartment and had an established job, she began to notice something strange – when she was using her computer, her face was starting to burn. This started to affect her professional life, and the problem got even worse as she started to be affected by all kinds of lights, including fluorescent ones.
She reevaluated her career plans and decided to become a piano teacher instead, as that would give her full control over her environment, and she wouldn’t be forced to work in darkness for the most part. Meanwhile, she was going through various doctors who were running all sorts of tests on her in order to figure out what was wrong.
Nothing helped eventually – special protective UV layers on her windows, clothing that blocks out the sunlight, all these methods were useless in general as they still allowed small amounts of sunlight through, amounts which were still harmful enough to her sensitive skin.
Her current life revolves around a careful routine. Anna enjoys going out, and she treats it like a luxury now, only leaving her dark home around dusk to roam around the streets as the light fades away. She says it took her a while to get the hang of when she should go out, as sometimes she still ended up overexposing her skin and getting it burned, but it was a risk she had to live with.
With an allergy like this, one’s life would definitely get affected in a major way. Is it possible to find a balanced way to live a full life in such a condition? Anna Lyndsey seems to be finding her way around the darkness at least somewhat, and it’s certainly amazing what a human is capable of once they put their mind to it. Hopefully, her condition isn’t going to deteriorate and she gets to enjoy some actual true sunlight at some point in the future. After all, if it came out of the blue like that, it might one day go away as well.
