Plenty of ideas for the character
Right after the Season 2 finale, executive producer Jeffrey Bell said that the creative team has a lot of ideas for Luke Mitchell and his character Lincoln in the series.
In the series finale of Season 2, Lincoln turned to Jiaying after she launched an attack on the S.H.I.E.L.D. carrier but eventually switched allegiances and enabled Lincoln to help Skye and the rest of the S.H.I.E.L.D. save the world from the deadly ginger army known as Terrigen Mists.
Bell said that Mitchell was a remarkable addition to the series in the past season that is why it was easy to make a decision that would make the Australian actor a series regular for the third season.
Towards the end of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2, Phil Coulson handed Skye a folder with the label ‘Caterpillars’ on it, which was a reference to Jonathan Hickman and Stefano Caselli’s secret warriors.
Everyone knows that Nick Fury runs several different sects of sleeper agents and each one is called a ‘caterpillar’ team. It looks like Lincoln would be taken in as Skye’s first recruit as she forms her own caterpillar team.
“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is also referred to sometimes as “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” because the series actually originated from Marvel Comics.
