Those who know their Marvel comic books know that Peggy Carter is the first lady love of Steve Rogers, the alter-ego of Captain America.
It could be recalled that Peggy Carter was actually one of the main characters in the first Captain America movie starring Chris Evans officially titled “Captain America: The First Avenger” shown in 2011.
Peggy and Colonel Chester Philips, played by veteran actor Tommy Lee Jones, were the only ones who believe in the potentials of Steve Rogers after he was countlessly rejected to join the military.
And she and Colonel Philips saw the determination and willingness of Steve Rogers to transform into a super soldier that turned him into Captain America.
In the movie, Peggy Carter was played by Hayley Atwell, and because of her convincing portrayal of the character in “Captain America: The First Avenger,” she was taken in again to reprise her role in the second movie about the star-spangled superhero officially titled “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” shown in 2014.
A Marvel One-Shot short film on “Agent Carter” was also shown where Hayley also played the character.
Bringing the character to the small screen
So when Marvel Television decided to bring Agent Peggy Carter to the small screen, Hayley Atwell was the hands down choice for the role.
As expected, “Agent Carter” is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and premiered on ABC for its first season on January 6 this year. It only had eight episodes and lasted until February 24.
The series is being produced by ABC Studios, Marvel Television, and F&B Fazekas & Butters. The executive producers of the show are Tara Butters, Michele Fazekas, and Chris Dingess.
The TV show revolves on the story of Peggy Carter who must balance her life as a secret agent with that of a single woman in the time of 1940s America.
“Agent Carter” also stars James D’Arcy, Chad Michael Murray, and Enver Gjokaj, along with Shea Whigham, who was only good for the first season of the TV series. The show introduces the origins of several characters and storylines from Marvel films while other characters from other films and Marvel One-Shots also have their cameo appearances in the TV series.
They will also be joined by Dominic Cooper as Jarvis and Howard Stark for Season 2.
The first season of “Agent Carter” only had eight episodes but when it was renewed by ABC for Season 2, despite declining ratings, it shall have a total of 10 episodes.
Charming her way into the hearts of American viewers
While Season 2 of “Agent Carter” is still months away from premiering on ABC, there are reports that Peggy Carter will finally move on from her fascination of Steve Rogers and will most likely have a new love interest, notes the Ecumenical News.
The second season will reportedly explore a new location, possibly Hollywood, and it shall open Peggy to a new romantic relationship because according to Hayley Atwell in a recent interview, her character is now ready to move on from Steve Rogers.
As much as “Agent Carter” charmed her way into the hearts of American viewers, the show is now doing the same in UK TV as the series is now being aired via Fox UK.
UK viewers had to wait a bit longer to know more about the charming Marvel comic character as the TV series was not picked up for broadcast until several months after it was released in the US.
But this early, Fox UK has confirmed that it will broadcast Season 2 of “Agent Carter” early next year, about the time when it airs on ABC in the US.
