Adam Lambert is one music artist who already admitted that he was gay even before he became famous after making a runner-up finish in the singing competition reality show “American Idol” back in 2009.
In a recent official video, Adam Lambert talked about his experience growing up as a gay man and how being open about it and coming out to his family helped his life to become better.
The same video from the “Ghost Town” singer is now being used by the “It Gets Better” project, founded by Dan Savage and husband Terry Miller in 2010 in response to the spate of LBGT youth suicides, reports Towleroad.
The project is meant to prevent LBGT youth suicides as well as provide comfort and solace to young people who are still struggling to understand their sexual identity and are scared to come out in the open for fear of public persecution and humiliation.
Started in his puberty
In his video, Adam Lambert narrated that his sexual self-discovery started around puberty when he began to realize that everything got kind of strange to him.
It was then that he realized that he was not like other boys of his own age. He admitted that the feeling of being different and not seeing any visible gay men to serve as role models for him left Adam Lambert feeling isolated.
Lambert said that he kind of hid from being his true self because he knew that he was going to be a target of other guys if he did not do that.
But when he moved into high school and started joining the choir and theater, he began to see representations of LGBT people in media. That’s when he thought about coming out in the open.
Eventually, he found the courage to admit to his parents that he is gay but it was his mother who proudly announced and told her friends and relatives that his son was gay. That gave Adam a sense of relief. Now, he can just look back to it as a funny episode in his life.
He said that coming out as gay was so funny that everything before it seemed like a big deal for him and everyone back then. But when it finally happened, he realized that it was quite easy and the family acceptance really helped.
During his season with the “American Idol,” his sexuality and pictures of him kissing boys also emerged. But instead of being shy or embarrassed about it, he admitted that it is him and that he has nothing to hide as a gay man.
Gratitude from ‘The Voice’ winner
Alisan Porter, the winner of “The Voice” Season 10, expresses her profuse thanks to her coach Christina Aguillera, her family and friends that include Adam Lambert.
Porter revealed in a recent statement with reporters that she and Adam have been taking about the process every single day from beginning to end including song choices and outfits.
She also revealed that Adam is so particular. She said that Adam was also her best critique including how she looks, notes People.
Porter took a lot of inspiration from Adam Lambert who appeared during the eight season of “American Idol” back in 2009 and finishing runner-up.
She said that Adam is just so supportive and wonderful. She explained that the “For Your Entertainment” singer always wanted her to continue trying to do the work.
Adam gave her a good role model because he was able to do it already and he also wanted Alisan to be successful and the same like him.
Meanwhile, Adam Lambert has expressed his great admiration for the singing skills of pop singer Rihanna when he caught her performing in Detroit recently.
The “Ghost Town” singer said that he was floored by the “Diamond” hitmaker when he watched her in her performance in Detroit that blew him away.
