Taiwanese tech company Acer has just launched the world’s first Chromebook that features a 15.6-inch display, one week ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015 to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The launch of the new laptop, which shall be running on Google’s Chrome operating system, thus the term Chromebook, has added a new lineup to Acer’s continuously growing roster of Web-centric computers, reports Focus Taiwan.
Officially known as the Acer Chromebook 15, the laptop will reportedly run on either the fifth generation Intel Core i3 processor or the next generation Intel Celeron processor.
Whichever chipset the company chooses to stick with for the laptop, it should already guarantee the Chromebook of speedier processing and excellent performance both for multi-tasking apps and online games.
The Chromebook emphasizes Internet connectivity more than traditional Windows-based computers and laptops.
A powerhouse of a laptop
Jerry Kao, president of the Acer Notebook Business Group, is proud to state that the Acer Chromebook 15 is a powerhouse of a laptop. In addition to its very obvious large display, the laptop also exudes fast mobile performance to ensure that users would get to accomplish a lot of things every day, cites the Acer executive.
The Acer official also added that the Chromebook 15 is a clear indication that the Taiwanese company remains aggressive in introducing trend-setting devices while capitalizing on the latest in technology.
The Chromebook 15 also features two display resolution options. The first one is a full-HD display with 1920 x1080 pixels where users can watch videos and pictures in very sharp resolution. And the second is an HD display with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, for those consumers scrimping on the budget.
Variants of the Acer laptop include a 2GB or 4GB RAM or a 16GB or a 32GB solid-state drive for storage space.
Acer states that the Chromebook will be retailed starting at $249.99 in the United States. But given its outstanding features and fast performance, the laptop is certainly worth more than its retail price.
The top Chromebooks of 2014
Based on the market data obtained by market intelligence firm ABI Research, global shipments of Chromebooks have more than doubled to 4.1 million units in 2014 from merely 2.1 million units in 2013.
The research firm also disclosed that the world’s three major Chromebook vendors are Acer, Samsung, and Hewlett-Packard. The three accounts for a combined 74% of the total Chromebook shipments for the first half of 2014.
Following the busy shopping season during the recent Christmas holidays, Amazon has listed the top three Chromebooks based on their sales. Acer’s 11.6-inch C720 Chromebook topped the list, followed by the 13.3-inch Asustek Chromebook C300, and the 11.6-inch HP Chromebook 11 at third.
Acer is confident that its Chromebook 15 would also make waves in the aspect of sales when it is officially released to global markets very soon.
