Perusing through the Twitter account of actress Abigail Spencer, one can’t help but notice that the actress seems to be enjoying herself these days going into events and being photographed in the red carpet.
Abigail has all the right reasons to celebrate as the American drama TV series “Rectify” where she stars in, has already been renewed by Sundance for its fourth season, amid its insanely low ratings.
Notwithstanding its performance during its first two seasons, Season 3 of “Rectify” actually got ratings that most networks would not dare keep a TV show on the air with. It was averaging only 160,000 viewers per episode. Networks are cancelling TV series left and right if the shows don’t have 1.5 million viewers or more but “Rectify” is standing still and tall, notes Gainesville Scene.
In fact, the “Minority Report” TV series on Fox, which has 2.45 million viewers on its last episode, is reportedly on its way to being cancelled already so it is just absurd to see “Rectify” still holding firm.
No wonder the show’s actors, including Abigail Spencer, are proud of the show, not for its poor ratings but how some critics think that it is a good TV series more than anything else.
Not competing on ratings
“Rectify” also happens to be Sundance TV’s first wholly-owned scripted series so the TV show is basically a network pride. Besides, as a sister company of AMC, which is packing it in the rating game on cable television with its “The Walking Dead” series, Sundance no longer needs to compete for ratings and money.
While it is true that “Rectify” may be low in terms of viewership, but the TV series is definitely high on a lot of incredibly worthy things including beauty, wonder, and humanity.
There is no other TV series today that provides a truer reflection of human life and all its subtleties today. Some critics believe that watching “Rectify” is a singular experience because it makes viewers laugh, cry, and most importantly, care, which no other show on television today does.
The writing and the actor’s accompanying performances are crisp as they capture the nuances and complexities of life better than anything else in the small screen today. “Rectify” is just one of the bright spots of television and critics hope that more of the same will come out soon instead of being drown on commercial success with barely any form of meaning or significance to one’s life.
Abigail Spencer plays the character of Amantha Holden, younger sister of protagonist Daniel Holden, played by Aden Young.
Daniel has been convicted for the rape and strangulation murder of his teenage girlfriend Hanna but was later released from prison after the discovery of conflicting DNA evidence. Amantha believes in his brother’s innocence of the crime.
A busy year
The year 2015 is proving to be a fabulous year for actress Abigail Spencer. While she also had a busy acting year last year, it was nonetheless peppered by the so-called The Fappenings – the nude photo scandal involving A-List, B-List and C-List stars when hackers were able to access their cloud storage.
In addition to being part of summer’s darkest drama series on TV – “True Detective” Season 2 on HBO and “Rectify” Season 3 on the Sundance Channel – Abigail has had a lot of guesting stints in several other TV shows and also had her fair share of acting assignments on some major and indie films.
Abigail is really proving to be a great and prolific character actress. She appears as Gena, the no-nonsense ex-wife of Ray Velcoro, played by Colin Farrell, in “True Detective.” She delivers beautifully too as scorned southern belle Amantha Holden in “Rectify.”
