Abigail Spencer is really proud of her accomplishments this year as a busy TV actress and the latest feather in her acting cap is making it to The Hollywood Reporter’s critics list featuring the year’s top 11 performances by an actor or an actress on TV.
The Hollywood Reporter Twitter account posted on December 22 the article that its site published on December 18, describing the roster as its electric eleven. Abigail Spencer was cited for her superb acting on the TV series “Rectify.”
Accordingly, Abigail Spencer, who plays the role of Amantha Holden in “Rectify,” made good in her particular dramatic responsibility as the audience’s surrogate in facing the travails of brother Daniel Holden, played by the equally superb Aden Young.
Spencer has successfully brought the much-needed humor, either by sarcasm or simply donning the Thrifty Town uniform, to a TV series that often feels full of transcendental ache.
Abigail subsequently retweeted the post, obviously elated and proud of the latest citation from critics regarding her acting skills.
The electric eleven list of The Hollywood Reporter has been topped by John Hamm of “Mad Men,” followed by Andre Holland of “The Knick,” and Sharon Horgan of “Catastrophe.”
Incidentally, Abigail Spencer was also nominated for an acting award in the upcoming 2016 People’s Choice Awards. She, in fact, made it to the press conference early in November announcing the nominations for the awards, as chronicled by her fan website.
One of the best shows of 2015
Abigail Spencer is very proud for being part of “Rectify” which according to one internet news site is one of the top 10 best TV shows of 2015.
Abigail has all the right reasons to celebrate as the American drama TV series “Rectify” where she stars in, has already been renewed by Sundance for its fourth season, amid its insanely low ratings.
Notwithstanding its performance during its first two seasons, Season 3 of “Rectify” actually got ratings that most networks would not dare keep a TV show on the air with. It was averaging only 160,000 viewers per episode. Networks are cancelling TV series left and right if the shows don’t have 1.5 million viewers or more but “Rectify” is standing still and tall.
In fact, the “Minority Report” TV series on Fox, which has 2.45 million viewers on its last episode, is reportedly on its way to being cancelled already so it is just absurd to see “Rectify” still holding firm. No wonder the show’s actors, including Abigail Spencer, are proud of the show, not for its poor ratings but how some critics think that it is a good TV series more than anything else.
High on a lot of incredibly worthy things
“Rectify” also happens to be Sundance TV’s first wholly-owned scripted series so the TV show is basically a network pride. Besides, as a sister company of AMC, which is packing it in the ratings game on cable television with its “The Walking Dead” series, Sundance no longer needs to compete for ratings and money.
While it is true that “Rectify” may be low in terms of number of viewers, but the TV series is definitely high on a lot of incredibly worthy things including beauty, wonder, and humanity.
There is no other TV series today that provides a truer reflection of human life and all its subtleties today. Some critics believe that watching “Rectify” is a singular experience because it makes viewers laugh, cry, and most importantly, care, which no other show on television today does.
The writing and the actor’s accompanying performances are crisp as they capture the nuances and complexities of life better than anything else in the small screen today. “Rectify” is just one of the bright spots of television and critics hope that more of the same will come out soon instead of being drowned on commercial success with barely any form of meaning or significance to one’s life.
