Abigail Spencer Announces Production for Season 4 of Critically-Acclaimed ‘Rectify’ Already Underway!

Actress Abigail Spencer has recently announced on her Twitter account that production for Season 4 of the critically-acclaimed drama TV series “Rectify” on Sundance TV has already begun in the middle of last month and that she is happy to be back in the set with the cast members of the show.

“Rectify” was regarded by critics last year as one of the top 10 best TV shows of 2015. There is hardly an awarding body that did not recognize and nominated “Rectify” for Best Drama Series on Television category early this year.

However, the TV series does not bring in the ratings and the viewership, thus, the network has come to a decision to finally end the show through a final Season 4 to premiere in the fall of this year.

Abigail Spencer plays the character of Amantha Holden, younger sister of protagonist Daniel Holden, played by Aden Young, in “Rectify.”

Daniel has been convicted of the rape and strangulation murder of his teenage girlfriend Hanna but was later released from prison after the discovery of conflicting DNA evidence. Amantha believes in his brother’s innocence of the crime.

Eight episodes to wrap up the series

Spencer also posted on her Twitter a snapshot of the whiteboard showing the actors and the schedules of the production of “Rectify” Season 4.

While she did not put any description or caption to the image, it was clear that the fourth and final season shall have eight episodes to put a fitting conclusion to the TV series.

It is actually two episodes more than the show’s six-episode Season 3. It had 10 episodes apiece during its first two seasons on Sundance TV, which was launched by iconic Hollywood actor and director Robert Redford back in 1996 as the Sundance Channel.

It was a premium movie network and destination for independent films. The network only began expanding into scripted TV series territory with the debut of the thought-provoking drama “Rectify” back in 2013, details Screen Rant.

The TV series is an existential story that was allowed to come to life during an existential era in serial storytelling. It was a case of perfect timing with the perfect partners.

Notwithstanding its performance during its first two seasons, Season 3 of “Rectify” actually got ratings that most networks would not dare keep a TV show on the air with. It was averaging only 160,000 viewers per episode. Networks are cancelling TV series left and right if the shows don’t have 1.5 million viewers or more but “Rectify” is standing still and tall as of last year.

In fact, the “Minority Report” TV series on Fox, which has 2.45 million viewers on its last episode, has just been cancelled late last year so it is just absurd to see “Rectify” still holding firm. No wonder the show’s actors, including Abigail Spencer, are proud of the show, not for its poor ratings but how some critics think that it is a good TV series more than anything else.

A red carpet regular

Since the start of the year, Abigail Spencer has been a regular fixture in the red carpets of most awarding ceremonies.

Apparently, the 34-year-old actress goes to the awarding rites because of the TV series “Rectify” which always receives nominations from the award-giving bodies.

There is hardly an awarding body that did not recognize and nominated “Rectify” for Best Drama Series on Television category and Abigail is always there to support her show, which she has been part of from the start.

She started off the year by squeezing her last-minute appearance on the red carpet of the 2016 People’s Choice Awards in February.
