A Look Back at April Fools’ Week: Clash of Clans Surrounded by Pranks!

Gamers never miss out an opportunity to take part in some April Fool’s shenanigans, and most gaming companies are usually happy to give them something to enjoy and discuss. Indeed, gamers have learned to be more careful on April 1, as any interesting-sounding news should usually be taken with a grain of salt around that time. Sometimes though, it’s not the companies running the jokes, but players themselves.

“Clash of Clans” was particularly full of jokes and tricks on April 1, and the game’s developers apparently noticed the way players were having fun with their game and responded positively. In one joke, a YouTube user posted a video with their own idea for a “reworked” Archer Queen who… fires upon walls while ignoring other targets around her that would make more sense. Fans of the game would probably instantly recognize the humor in the joke, due to the behavior of the Archer Queen class in normal gameplay.

In another video, we could see user Peter17$ destroying gem boxes using lightning, and eventually receiving a message that he has been banned for “winning Clash of Clans”. While the humorous nature of the video was obvious and it was clear that he never intended it as anything serious, some YouTube users apparently did treat it seriously and were quick to comment on the video, saying that it’s “obviously fake”. In the end, this only added to the humor for other users who found the situation quite hilarious.

The game’s developers may have been taking part in the pranking as well, as a strange image was posted on the game’s official Facebook page, but in the end it turned out to be a hoax. Users found the situation funny though, and commented in a light-hearted manner, saying that the developers managed to fool them.

On a more serious note, even though the game remains one of the most popular mobile titles, its popularity may soon be overtaken by other competitive titles that have been coming up on the market recently. It’s a popular gameplay style that has been the attention of a lot of copying lately, and while “Clash of Clans” still dominates the genre, other titles have the potential to eventually dethrone it.

Of course, with enough ongoing support and attention to the community, the game could easily remain popular for a long time, especially if the developers keep releasing new content. They have been quite good at paying attention to what people want and figuring out the right direction for the game’s development, and hopefully they will be able to continue that trend for the next months as well. This time would prove critical for the game.
