We haven’t had much of a chance to see anything official about the Sony Xperia Z4 yet, and that situation may probably not change for a while – but on the other hand, pictures have been circulating the Internet recently which are allegedly leaked images of the new phone. It’s not known if the leak is legitimate yet or not – but if it’s true, the phone would resemble an earlier predecessor in the line, the Z2, with the placement of its front speakers. Other than that, the overall build quality seems on par with what Sony have been releasing in this line previously.
Sony are expected to give more detailed information about the phone when they reveal it officially at the MWC 2015 in Barcelona. And if the rumors are true, the actual launch of the phone will follow a few weeks after that. It’s not known if any of this is true though, as there were also rumors that the company is planning to make an appearance at CES 2015, but that didn’t happen. Sony also have a press conference coming up on March 2, which could possibly be the date when they announce their new phone.
If the leaked picture is genuine, then Sony have done a good job on the phone’s external design – but what can buyers expect on the inside? Beneath the 5.2 inch display, there will be a Snapdragon 810 processor, and the phone will have a 20.7 megapixel camera, all of that powered by a 3,400 mAh battery. It will ship with Android 5.0 out of the box, and will likely receive upgrades to more recent versions of the operating system shortly after launch.
In fact, Sony are one of the companies that are traditionally known for keeping their Android devices up to date relatively fast, so users shouldn’t worry about having to wait too long to get the latest updates.
There are also other rumors about the device’s specifications, pointing at a 4.7 inch screen and a slightly larger, 3,420 mAh battery. Almost all rumors talk about a 20.7 megapixel camera, however, so that aspect of the phone is likely correct. In addition, there’s been a lot of talk about water and dust resistance, and some of the rumors also mention wireless charging.
And yet, it’s up to Sony to reveal if any of those rumors are true, as the company has been keeping quiet about the phone’s official specifications so far. At least on the official front, that is – judging by the sheer volume of rumors about the device at the moment, the company is either the target of a lot of speculation, or they’re not very good at keeping their secrets from leaking out. We’ll find out in a few months, in any case.
