Downton Abbey Season 5, Episode 5 Touches on Some Controversial Issues!

The latest episode of “Downton Abbey” has just dug deep into some popular controversial social issues, a move that hardly surprised anyone that’s been following the show’s development since it started. There have been rumors that the next season of the show is going to conclude its storyline, but the producers are definitely doing a great job at going out in style, as each episode of the current season has been very strong and well-done.

Samantha Bond was featured in this episode as well, as Rosamund was showing disappointment at the fact that Marigold is under the care of a pig farmer, as opposed to the rich woman that was found for Edith. Most reviewers were particularly impressed with this scene, as the dialogue was tense and cut deep right into some of the characters’ traits. Some went on to say that the rest of the episode wasn’t even half as good as this specific scene, although that’s of course entirely subjective, especially when some of the latter developments were more central to the overall plot.

It’s been known since last week’s episode that Rose’s only interest in marriage is love, and she isn’t the materialistic type. She’s introduced to Atticus Altridge, who instantly strikes her fancy, although there are certain problems preventing the two from getting together – namely, the fact that Altridge is Jewish, which instantly causes conflicts for the aristocrats. However, the two seemed strongly determined to get their marriage done, and it’s likely that we’ll see the marriage sometime during this season.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Patmore’s aunt has passed away, and has left her a hefty inheritance. There seem to be some strange developments between some of the characters, as she then asks Carson for advice on her finances, which was seen as strange by some viewers. However, it does make sense in light of Carson’s experience in the field, as well as the fact that Mrs. Patmore has permission to talk to him without having to request it officially, so the whole scene could also be seen as the most sensible move for her character.

Something that fans have been pointing out with slight disappointment is the lack of any development in the romantic relationship between Carson and Hughes in this week’s episode, although that’s expected to be given more attention in the following parts of the season. There have been rumors that something dramatic is about to go down in that part of the plot, although reports are quite conflicting regarding what exactly is going to happen. In any case, the producers of the show have made it clear that they are willing to take the plot quite far sometimes, so nothing would be surprising right now.
