True to her promise, pop star Katy Perry rendered a spectacular performance during the halftime of Super Bowl 2015 that figuratively brought the entire University of Phoenix stadium in Glendale, Arizona down on February 1.
She dazzled the crowd with her performance of her smash hit “Roar” that also featured dancing sharks, a prowling metallic lion and a levitating star that shot fireworks into the night sky, details Yahoo! News from an AFP report.
The crowd knew firsthand what she was going to sing first as she entered the football field riding the huge, fiery-eyed metallic lion while wearing a flame-festooned dress.
Katy Perry also had a brief but very raunchy duet with rock legend Lenny Kravitz with the song “I Kissed A Girl,” which is also one of Katy’s first big hits in 2008.
The pop star’s next act saw her on a desert island setting complete with all the props including palm trees, dancers dressed like funny sharks, and beach balls as she sang “California Gurls.” Just like her first two acts, the third segment drew wild cheers and applause from the crowd and Katy Perry knew she had them in the palm of her hands just like she wanted to do.
“Firework” was her grand finale and it was quite a spectacular rendition. She went up a star-shaped platform and elevated above the football field, circling around the stadium as fireworks were happening all around her, much to the cheers, delight, and applause of the crowd.
Always a must-see event
Aside from the football game itself at the biggest football stage of them all, the NFL’s halftime performance is part of its championship extravaganza and has become a must-see event during Super Bowl.
In addition to the huge crowd that normally graces the NFL championship during Super Bowl, it’s also an opportunity for celebrities, advertisers, movies, and products alike to capitalize on the game’s huge fan base and generate high ratings.
Past performances of Beyonce and Madonna were lauded tremendously but there were also instances that halftime performances generated controversy like the wardrobe malfunction and the ‘nip-slip of Janet Jackson in 2004 and the 2007 performance of Prince that featured a strangely shaped guitar that cast a phallus-shaped shadow.
Positive reactions
Katy Perry’s performance run only for 12 and a half minutes but the reactions of fans on the stadium and also on social media was so overwhelmingly positive that titillated the pop star.
She was commended for her live singing, her back-up dancers during her performance, and her three quick costume changes.
One of the first to greet Katy was actress Anna Kendrick who said that the pop singer was magic with her halftime performance at the Super Bowl 2015. She also said that Katy’s voice was so unreal, like she couldn’t believe what she heard.
Snoop Dogg also made his comment on Katy Perry’s spectacular performance by saying that he was also part of the act because he was the one wearing the shark costume.
