Almost 20 years after the showing of the very successful “Independence Day” movie starring Bill Pullman, Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, “Independence Day 2” is now happening and the movie is already slated to come out on June 24, 2016.
The movie shall be officially titled “Independence Day Forever” or “ID Forever” and it shall be helmed by Director Roland Emmerich, who also directed the first movie shown in 1996, details E! News.
The bigger buzz is that Liam Hemsworth, who played the role of Gale in the very successful “The Hunger Games” movie series is reportedly being considered to play the lead role of the sequel to the epic adventure movie.
Producer’s choice
As early as late October last year, the 25-year-old Liam Hemsworth has been hinted to become part of the “Independence Day” sequel following the tweet of film producer Harold Kloser on October 31 that included a photo of him and Liam together.
The producer also put a caption on the post by saying that he met Liam and found the actor very cool. He also added that he hope to be able to work with the Australian actor soon.
Then in November, Twentieth Century Fox gave “ID Forever” the green light. Subsequently Harold Kloser made another tweet along with a photo of Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin thanking them for making him part of the “Independence Day” journey.
On January 27, Kloser tweeted in reaction to the news that Liam Hemsworth is being offered the lead role for the “Independence Day” sequel. He said that Liam is a good choice for the lead role of “ID Forever” and he hopes that the actor agrees to the movie offer.
A tough act to follow
“ID Forever” will be under pressure to match if not surpass the immense success of “Independence Day.” The first movie was a blockbuster success and made more than $817 million at the box office worldwide. It was a tough act to follow.
Bill Pullman played the role of the US president in “ID4,” Will Smith as the military pilot, and Jeff Goldblum as the computer genius. The three of them work together to save Earth from an alien invasion.
Reports have it that Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum will be returning to the sequel to reprise their roles. But Will Smith will not be returning. But his stepson in the first movie will be part of the lead actors who shall fight off the next alien invasion of earth, which will be the main plot of “ID Forever.” Filming for the movie shall commence towards the latter part of the year.
Director Emmerich has not confirmed any cast members for “ID Forever” thus far but he and Harold Kloser already tweeted photos of themselves while scouting a possible location of the movie in Sta. Fe, New Mexico.
