Kobe Bryant is pretty much associated with one team only at this point in his career, and he’ll likely remain with them until the end, unless something unusual happens. He has quite the history with the Los Angeles Lakers – but some recent revelations paint a different portrait for the feelings Kobe had for his career at some point. Apparently, he had been talking to Michael Jordan about joining the fellow basketball star in Washington.
These conversations reportedly took place around the end of Jordan’s own career, and some have raised the question of whether things could have turned out differently for him if he had gone down that road. Michael Jordan hasn’t been playing basketball professionally since 2003, and he was let go from his position as president of basketball operations by Abe Pollin who was in control back then. This all happened just a year before Kobe Bryant started working on a free contracting basis in 2004, when he decided to back out of his contract with the LA Lakers. Bryant was later back on the team for another seven years when Shaquille O’Neal was sent off to Miami.
Kobe Bryant himself has confirmed the recent news, although he made sure to add that the events occurred a long time ago, and it appears that his career won’t be moving in any other direction at this point. In fact, there has been some speculation that Bryant might have to give up on basketball as a whole soon, after he tore a rotator cuff in his right shoulder recently, resulting in having to miss several games until the end of the season.
And indeed, some experts haven’t been optimistic for Bryant’s recovery and his ability to make it back into the game. There have been comments from various publications that the player’s career is as good as over right now, and this has been met with strong disappointment from fans of the sport, which is perfectly understandable. Bryant has a long history with basketball, and a lot of experience under his belt, and it would definitely be sad to see him leave the scene. However, situations like this aren’t so uncommon for sports like basketball and football.
Is Kobe Bryant going to reveal more interesting bits about the past of his career now that he’s moving away from it? There doesn’t seem to be that much that he can share in the first place, as his fans have been following him quite closely during his career. Of course, there are always things going on behind the scenes that only people involved in the sport would know, so it would be interesting to hear Bryant’s account.
