Clash of Clans Inspired Raids of Glory Released on Apple’s iOS!

Chillingo, a company under the wing of Electronic Arts, has just announced “Raids of Glory” – and most of the critics who have noticed the game could best describe it as “Clash of Clans with pirates”. The game obviously draws heavy inspiration from “Clash of Clans”, although its developers have made various changes to the base formula that result in an overall different, yet familiar experience. The game has been in development for quite a while, according to reports, and was originally titled “Gang of Pirates”.

It’s not known if the name was changed to avoid making it too similar to “Clash of Clans”, although the new name really isn’t that far off itself, but on the other hand, it doesn’t seem like the developers of the new game are trying too hard to hire the source of their original inspiration. The game’s gameplay follows a similar formula – players are tasked with building a pirate stronghold, and putting together an army of pirates, with which to explore the world and plunder resources.

The game allows players to take control of their pirates directly, and target specific locations with its simple interface. There’s an option to go up against other pirates and win resources from them, or form crews together with one’s friends to get even more opportunities for success.

“Raids of Glory” features a shiny GPU-enabled 3D engine, which allows for some amazing graphics in full 3D, and the game even allows players to freely rotate the camera and look around at their own leisure. All in all, it’s worth noting that the new title has been executed with a lot of style and attention to details, so it’s probably a good idea to check it out for those who found themselves enjoying the gameplay of “Clash of Clans”.

After the success of “Clash of Clans”, it was obvious that the game would be copied quite actively by other companies, and indeed it didn’t take long for the first clones to appear. Rovio already got in on the action with “Plunder Pirates”, which was met with moderately good reviews, and now it seems that the market for this type of gameplay is about to get saturated soon, if one or more two similar titles come out.

It’s not necessarily a bad thing though, as more variety always leads to more competition, and considering how much these games are probably earning, their developers should have plenty of motivation to keep their gameplay fresh and interesting, exploring new ideas and adding new content on a regular basis. Hopefully, the games won’t degrade to a pay-to-win experience too quickly, as sometimes happens with mobile games when they get too popular too fast.
