There is very little on television these days that is going to surprise anyone. That goes the same for those that perform the most popular music in the world today. Lady Gaga is a perfect example of a person that has been keeping fans on the edge of their seats with every song, video and performance. Katy Perry is another, Marilyn Manson and Skipknot are just a few more examples. After her very good performance on Saturday Night Live this week, you can add Sia to that list.
In case you are like many of the Americans before Saturday night and do not know how Sia is, here is the breakdown. The 39 year old singer is from Australia and has collaborated with many popular artists. In 2000, she had a single that made it to the Top 10 in the United Kingdom. More recently, in 2008 she had an album reach into the low 50’s of the Billboard 200. Sia has won many awards including Best Music DVD and Best Pop Release.
Last year she released a single called “Chandelier” and that quickly boosted her recognition as it was ranked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. She was also recently nominated for 4 Grammy Awards and is the 97th richest person in Australia under the age of 40. Now that you know who she is, we can talk about her performance at the most recent Saturday Night Live. According to sources, the singer took the stage and did not show her face, leaving many wondering if she was even on stage.
Clearly the song that was played was her hit, but the face cover was not making it easy to see who it was on stage. During her performance of two hit songs, the singer has a mime do sign language next to her and during another, had a couple female dancers do an interpretive bit around her while she sang. The singer wore lace on her glasses and that was why you could not see her face, but it was likely no more than just part of the show.
Sia has been doing things like this during her performances for her entire career and even though the now hot again singer claims that she does not want to be famous, she does a lot to gain the attention of the internet. The next morning reviewers thought that she delivered one of the best performances on Saturday Night Live without even moving an inch on the stage.
