Make no mistake about it. Cadillac is giving luxury vehicle manufacturers a run for their money with the company’s launching of the CTS-V, touted to be the most powerful car in the 112-year history of Cadillac.
The CTS-V unveiling took place on January 13, 2015 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, which officially marks the bold and aggressive move of Cadillac to return to pre-eminence in the upscale automotive market.
Cadillac used to be synonymous with American power and prestige in the global automotive industry but over the years, its share in the luxury vehicle market has been gobbled up by its aggressive rivals particularly German automakers, BMW and Mercedes.
Car experts and enthusiasts were one in saying that Cadillac’s launching of the CTS-V is a powerful statement backed by a very powerful luxury vehicle. The sporty sedan packs a very high power output of 640 horsepower, and a torque of 630 pound-feet that can make the CTS-V go from 0 to 60 kph in only 3.7 seconds.
The CTS-V is certainly the most powerful car in its class or even on most vehicles outside of its class. It has a top speed of 320 kilometers per hour so it’s not just powerful, it is also fast.
Fighting back
The Times Live reports that Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen, who personally unveiled the CTS-V at the North American International Auto Show, admitted to motoring enthusiasts and industry stakeholders that Cadillac had to face some adversities in the past.
Nysschen said the maker of America’s most luxurious brand of vehicles may have been down but the company was never out of the game. He said the CTS-V is an indication that the Cadillac is very much alive and is now ready to fight back, in what many sees as a warning to BMW and Mercedes.
The Cadillac executive also explained that the CTS-V forms part of the company’s product offensive which is meant to take its competitors across several segments of the market.
He also added that Cadillac is pouring in more than $12 billion in investment to kickstart the product offensive starting with the CTS-V. The company is said to be reinventing itself, recognizing that it has a lot up catching up to do with its rivals.
Nysschen was also quoted by hundreds of motoring journalists at the prestigious auto show that Cadillac has been doing a lot of planning for quite some time. He disclosed that what the company came up with is a comprehensive plan anchored on great products beginning with the CTS-V.
The Cadillac president said that the company plans to disrupt and shatter the status quo in the luxury car segment of the automotive market.
Sales of Cadillac vehicles in North America were down by 6.3 percent last year. The US and Canadian luxury car markets are touted to be highly competitive where cutthroat competition really thrives.
