The Consumer Electronics Show is a good place to get a look at the latest and greatest from companies like Apple, Samsung, LG, HTC, Google and more. You are going to see new smartphones, DSLR cameras, smartwatches, new televisions and even cars. Yes, you read that right, cars. This year there is at least one company that is showcasing a new type of 3-wheeled car that is apparently quite popular if you ask the people putting money down for a pre-order.
The new car comes from a company called Elio Motors. The car has just three wheels, with the single wheel in the back. It looks very narrow and judging by the many images that have been posted online, it is going to be lightweight and sporty at the same time. Clearly just a one-seater (it has two seats), the Elio Motors is very aerodynamic and will reportedly get you a cool 84 miles per gallon. That one stat alone is going to get people thinking about the new car and the money they will save at the fuel pump.
The new car belongs in a group of new “green” cars that are aiming to reduce the need for gasoline and according to one online source, you will be able to pick one up for less than a new MacBook Pro. The car is sexy looking and the price tag is going to get plenty of attention. The source claims that you can get the car for just $6,800. The car comes with awesome gas mileage and a holder for your iPad.
The car has been an idea for about 6 years now and that was when gas prices were so high that nobody wanted to leave the house in the car. Other electric cars were taking the world by storm and consumers were looking for a way to reduce costs of living. Purchasing a car that does not rely on fuel was a good start. There are other gas/electric hybrids on the market right now, but none of them has been labeled as a front runner in the category.
The car is practical for quick jaunts through the big city, but if you have a family or even a dog, the odds that you might pick one of these up are quite slim. The non-traditional design is also going to get some attention, but that is just from those that like a car that does not look like everything else on the lot. The Elio Motors car is powered by a three-cylinder engine that can get up to 100 mph at the highest. It comes with power locks, heat, A/C and a five-speed transmission as standard features. Automatic transmission is possible for about $1,000 more.
