Assassin’s Creed Coming to the Big Screens in December 2016!

One of the most successful video game franchises in history will have a film adaptation and will hit the big screen on December 21, 2016.

The movie version of the action-adventure open world stealth video game was supposed to hit the theaters on August 7, 2015 but 20th Century Fox run into some production and scheduling hurdles necessitating the adjustment to its release date by over a year, according to a report by GMA Network.

“Assassin’s Creed” will star Michael Fassbender, who played Magneto in the two most recent X-Men movies. He will take on the role of Desmond Miles, the main character of the movie adaptation of Ubisoft’s video game.

Storyline

The movie will obviously have some modification from the storyline in the video game. But the characters, features, and settings will remain the same.

Miles, who is playing a bartender in present day setting, will be caught in a war between the Assassins and Templars, where the future of humanity actually hinges. He will be battling it out with Assassins while going on an adventure to find answers and mysterious artifacts including the ‘Apple of Eden,’ which is the key to unlocking the secret that would save all of humanity.

Through a device called ‘Animus’, Miles would be forced into it by a large corporation for him to be able to relive the memories of his ancestors, most of whom are actually Assassins. His transposition would be crucial however in his quest to find powerful but dangerous artifacts, details Comicbook.com.

Busy 2016

With the announcement of the new release date for “Assassin’s Creed: The Movie,” Michael Fassbender will have a busy 2016 with two potential blockbuster films for next year.

Before the December 21, 2016 release of “Assassin’s Creed: The Movie,” the German-born Irish-raised actor will also be reprising his signature role of Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto in the next X-Men film titled “X-Men: Apocalypse” scheduled for release on May 27, 2016.

“Assassin’s Creed: The Movie” will be directed by Justin Kurzel, who has had the opportunity to work before with Fassbender in the historic and literary film “Macbeth.”

Given their previous collaboration, it is expected that the director and the movie’s lead star would hit it off well which shall ensure hassle-free filming and production glitches.

Fassbender has come a long way as an actor from the time he started off in a role for the Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg’s TV mini-series titled “Band of Brothers” back in 2001.

Assassin's Creed Victory

The movie has yet to name the other cast members but it is likely that shooting will start towards the second half of 2015.

Distribution of the film adaptation of Ubisoft’s video game was originally planned with Sony Entertainment but the developer had a change of mind and decided to partner instead with 20th Century Fox.
