Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date & Download: Update to Roll Out to Sony Xperia Z3 in February!

Sony has just confirmed that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be coming to its current flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z3, in February 2015.

While the company has not mentioned of any specific release date, it is almost a done deal in February because Sony wants to keep the promise it made to its smartphone users late last year, reports Android Authority.

Well, it may be that Xperia Z3 may be the Japanese smartphone maker’s flagship smartphone just a few months more after that as the Xperia Z4 is expected to roll out come April 2015, and shall become Sony’s latest toast.

As early as October 2014, even before the official launching of Google’s latest mobile operating system, there were reports that Sony will be launching the Lollipop to its core lines of smartphones early in 2015.

The Japanese tech giant made the confirmation in December 2014 about the rollout date of the Lollipop on its smartphones.

By core smartphone lines, what Sony means is its two latest flagship smartphone lines – the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z2. Thus it is expected that when the Xperia Z3 finally gets the sweet taste of the Lollipop sometime in February, the Xperia Z2 would surely not be far behind.

Lollipop for all Xperia Z lines

However, Sony has improved on its earlier pronouncement by issuing the latest word on the rollout date of the Lollipop on its smartphone lines during the start of the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015 in Las Vegas starting January 6.

Apparently, Android 5.0 Lollipop will not just be rolling out on the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 this February 2015, but the entire Z series of the company. And the unveiling of the Lollipop will not just be for certain countries, it will happen globally, disclosed a Sony executive during a keynote remark at CES 2015, reports IGN.

Sony’s Z series lines include the Xperia Z, the Xperia ZL, the Xperia ZR, the Xperia Tablet Z, the Xperia Z1, the Xperia Z1S, the Xperia Z Ultra, the Xperia Z1 Compact, the Xperia Z2, theXperia Z2 Tablet, the Xperia Z3, the Xperia Z3v, the Xperia Z3 Compact and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.

A calculated roll out

Although it is not bringing up the rear in as far as the rollout date of the Android 5.0 Lollipop is concerned but Sony is one of the bigger smartphone makers that have opted, most likely by intention, not to rush the Lollipop’s unveiling on its smartphones.

Motorola and Nexus were among the first makers of smartphones that have taken on the latest mobile operating system. Because of the typical glitches and kinks that come with the introduction of new softwares, they were also the first ones to suffer from the usual problems, with some experiencing major troubles too.

Having seen the issues that hounded the other smartphones, Sony and the other manufacturers that would be launching the Lollipop at a later time already have the solution or appropriate patch to address the earlier problems. It’s a calculated roll out so to speak and a good one too.
