Most people see Idina Menzel as a sweetheart and are very endearing towards her, and this has in part been the result of her performance in “Frozen”, which many fans of the film claimed was one of the major reasons for its success. Now, however, the public has turned against its favorite singer, as she recently made a small mistake during a live performance, a mistake that’s now echoing all over the Internet.
Menzel was performing “Let It Go”, the classic hit from the original “Frozen” during a special New Year’s Eve celebration, but the song didn’t go quite as planned. The singer didn’t quite hit her famous high notes which basically define the sound of the song, and this was immediately noticed by everyone watching. Comments about the performance were all over the Internet, with some publications claiming that the singer was actually yelling and growling instead of actually singing.
The reason for the poor performance has been attributed to cold weather, as the low temperature apparently made it very difficult for Idina Menzel to properly control her voice, as she wasn’t used to singing under such conditions. Still, she managed to deliver the rest of the song pretty much perfectly, although her slip-up with the high notes was the main point of discussion for most people, as can be expected in a situation like this.
Most of the criticism was expressed on Twitter, where many users were saying harsh things about Menzel. Some went as far as to say that she “butchered” the performance, and were very disappointed by what happened.
Menzel, on the other hand, was mostly positive about the situation, and expressed her thoughts in a tweet with a quote from an interview she had given previously. According to her, perfection isn’t about getting 100% of the notes in a performance right, it’s about making the most with the situation even when some of those notes don’t end up right. She seems to have a very upbeat attitude about the way fans have been responding to her performance, and it’s great to see that she hasn’t been affected.
Not everyone has been so harsh towards Menzel anyway, as some fans have been rather supportive of the singer, expressing their understanding about why her performance ended up like that, and claiming that they’d love to hear even more of her in the future. And if Disney end up announcing the long-awaited “Frozen 2” anytime soon, then we’ll likely get to see “Let It Go” performed live at least once or twice, as it would be a great opportunity for the studio to promote the new film.
