An alleged Samsung insider has been leaking information and details on Reddit about the Samsung Galaxy S6, the Korean tech giant’s upcoming flagship smartphone.
Reports have it that the Galaxy S6 would be officially announced by Samsung either in February or March and would subsequently be released in April. It was also in April 2014 that the company released its current flagship handset, the Samsung Galaxy S5, so a one-year product cycle is certainly ideal.
The leaker, who claims to be an employee of Samsung and carries the name SamsungRep2015 on Reddit, is brewing a storm on the public forum site with the information he or she has been letting out regarding the Samsung Galaxy S6.
The information and details he or she has been sharing are way better than the image leaks most websites turn up on Samsung’s latest device. SamsungRep2015 is even letting loose vital information as regards the Korean company’s plans for 2015.
Accordingly, a Reddit Moderator has confirmed the identity of SamsungRep2015 and he or she is indeed working for Samsung.
Radical turnaround
Of late, the most interesting information or leak that SamsungRep2015 has disclosed on Reddit is that Samsung made radical changes on the Galaxy S6. This information is consistent with the company’s early plans to make a revamp of its flagship smartphone line given the rather dismal review and reception of the Samsung Galaxy S5 after its launch last year.
The leaker also claimed that Samsung has streamlined its TouchWiz apps to lessen the bloatware that was quite prevalent with its previous flagship handsets including the Galaxy S5, reports Forbes.
SamsungRep2015 also disclosed that the responsiveness of Samsung Galaxy S6 has vastly improved while keeping its memory consumption down because the phone can reportedly free more than 1GB of memory from cold boot.
The leaker also hinted that Samsung is still finetuning its upcoming flagship smartphone as there is plenty of time between now and April to do those.
Despite recent leaks from SamsungRep2015, some reports still persist that the Samsung Galaxy S6 would not be as groundbreaking as Samsung promised it to be with its Project Zero pronouncement late last year.
In its recent report, AsiaOne notes that the Samsung Galaxy S6 appears to be the same old Samsung Galaxy phone line, on the assumption that the recent image leaks of the device are authentic.
Consistent reports
What remains consistent from initial reports or rumors are the key specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S6.
The handset will reportedly feature a 5.5-inch touch screen display with resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and shall be running on Qualcom’s 64-bit 810 Snapdragon chipset as processor and a 3GB of RAM. The device shall also have a 21-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization.
And naturally, it is expected that upon its release, the Samsung Galaxy S6 will be running on Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google’s latest mobile operating system.
