The beginning of a new year is always filled with many rumors about the next iPhone, as speculating about the future of the line is one of the favorite activities of Apple’s fans. And of course, it’s as hard as ever to figure out what the company’s plans are, as they’re carefully keeping everything under wraps.
Things are even tenser this time as it’s a special occasion – celebrating the 10th anniversary of the line is no small event, and many fans are convinced that Apple are going to do something particularly interesting for this release.
What that could be remains the subject of much speculation, and there are various theories going around. There have also been some alleged leaks of Apple’s plans for the iPhone 8, but so far most of those have been a bit underwhelming, so hopefully none of them have managed to get it right.
Some of the rumors about the next iPhone talk about a possible touch bar getting added to the device, as well as a completely bezel-free display. The latter is something that many fans of the company have been discussing for a while actually, while the former is a relatively new rumor that started when the new MacBook was introduced to the market.
It makes sense that people would look at Apple’s other devices for possible hints about the company’s future plans, but it’s also important to note that Apple may want to move in a new direction and explore new horizons.
After all, the original iPhone managed to set an entire new trend on the mobile market just by itself, and it was seen as a huge breakthrough, so it makes sense that we would see something similar with the iPhone 8 as well. But of course, such innovation doesn’t just happen because someone wishes for it, there’s a pretty major luck factor involved as well.
Apple have seemingly been trying to innovate with the iPhone recently, but some of their fans have argued that they’re going the wrong way about it. For example, the infamous removal of the headphone jack was without doubt a bold move, but whether it was one that benefited the company overall is hard to tell.
Many of their fans are actually convinced that this was the first nail in the company’s coffin, and that we’re not going to see any more interesting innovations by them, but rather “edgy” moves like this one, meant to provoke a reaction but not much more. Of course, that’s a very extreme view and not one that many fans subscribe to, but it will be interesting to see where the opinions lean after the release of the next device.
Other rumors about the iPhone 8 and its innovations claim that Apple are going to tackle the problem from another perspective – the software side of the device rather than its hardware. But what exactly could they do to make the iPhone 8 that much more interesting than its predecessors in this regard?
And more importantly, how would they do it without letting owners of their previous devices down? If the improvements in the device are indeed exclusively in its software, it would be hard for Apple to justify those improvements not making their way to their previous devices, at least the iPhone 7. And that will create a very bad environment for the company when it comes to communicating with their fans, something that could potentially ruin them in the long run too.
