It has been six years since the fifth book in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series was launched. The man is still working on his sixth installment of the series. Recently, however, the much-celebrated author supplied his fans with a rare update, who have been eagerly waiting for the release of The Winds of Winter.
On numerous occasions, Martin has been asked when his The Winds of Winter will come out, and he has been reluctant to address the matter over the past few months. The books have been witness to some delays, which in turn has paved the way for fans getting disappointed.
Fans have expressed their resentment towards George R.R. Martin’s slow pace of writing. Nevertheless, GR.R. Martin has finally spoken up. While answering a fan on his official Live Journal blog, Martin said on being questioned when The Winds of Winter book will be out, that it is “Not done yet”; but fans need not despair as well, for he also stated there in his blog that he has made progress.
While, thanks to George R.R. Martin’s comment, now we know for sure that the book is coming along slowly yet nicely, Martin also informed his fans that he is working at a slower pace than what he had himself hoped. He stated that a year ago, he had thought that he would be done with the book by now.
After saying that he dropped the big bomb stating that he feels that the book will be out this year.
This is George R.R. Martin’s biggest and most direct answer yet, as far as his book launch is concerned. Although, the author to make sure that fans don’t start expecting too much too soon and get all excited, also added that he had thought the same thing last year as well.
Over the past couple of months’ months, there have been rumors hinting that The Winds of Winter will be out before the airing of Game of Thrones season 7 commences. Martin has not spoken about the speculations, and HBO is still to broadcast an official premiere date for the hit series’ forthcoming season.
As George R.R. Martin is careful about not giving away any specific dates, it is best to trust the author’s latest comments of a potential 2017 release without constructing any further conclusions or speculating of a certain month or day.
In the meantime, according to The Telegraph, The Winds of Winter will be a shade darker than the former A Song of Ice and Fire installment. Last month George R.R. Martin said that in the coming novel, “Things get worse before they get better…”
The Winds of Winter comes after A Dance with Dragons and will be followed by A Dream of Spring.
Fans have been waiting uncomplainingly for The Winds of Winter for over half a decade, George RR Martin having promised and been unsuccessful to make numerous deadlines. Keeping that in mind, fans and enthusiasts should be advised to take Martin’s latest statement regarding the books release with a grain of salt.
In his last update that Martin provided on the book’s process, which was last January, he informed fans that The Winds of Winter would not be completed before the sixth season of Game of Thrones hit HBO.
