‘Better Call Saul’ Season 3 Must Also Bring in Hank Schrader Along with Gus Fring, Fans and Critics Suggest

The third season of the American crime drama TV series “Better Call Saul” on AMC is about two months away from airing and it has already been confirmed that Gustavo ‘Gus’ Fring, played by Giancarlo Esposito, will be appearing in the spin-off series of “Breaking Bad.”

Gus Fring is the restaurateur cum drug kingpin and he is to be the first major “Breaking Bad” character who would appear in “Better Call Saul.”

The familiar “Breaking Bad” characters who are series regular of “Better Call Saul” are of course Bob Odenkirk, who plays Jimmy McGill, prior to his transformation into Saul Goodman; Mike Ehrmantraut, played by Jonathan Banks, and Nacho, played by Michael Mando.

During the first two seasons of “Better Call Saul,” Tuco Salamanca, played by Raymond Cruz, already appeared in a recurring role. He was also a character from “Breaking Bad,” and so is his uncle, Hector, played by Mark Margolis. But they are not as major a character as someone like Gus Fring.

Gus Fring deserves a Hank Schrader

With the appearance of Gus Fring in Season 3 of “Better Call Saul,” fans and critics are now espousing that it is also time for Hank Schrader, played by Dean Norris, to also appear in the third season of the “Breaking Bad” spinoff show, reports Screener.

Hank Schrader is the brother-in-law of Walter White in “Breaking Bad.” He was a DEA agent and his partner is Gomie, played by Steven Michael Quezada.

However, it can be recalled in “Breaking Bad” that Gus Fring is a friend of the police department because he gives them chicken lunch or dinner once in a while. Hank Schrader or Gomie has never suspected Gus Fring to be a drug dealer.

It was only when Hank realized that it was his brother-in-law Walter, played by Bryan Cranston, who was the real Heisenberg, the blue crystal meth manufacturer in New Mexico, when he realized that Gus Fring is involved in drug dealing in the state as well.

It would really be interesting if showrunners Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould would allow other cast members of “Breaking Bad” to make their appearances in “Better Call Saul.” However, given that the latter is the prequel of the former, it is just too difficult to phase in the major characters from the parent series to the spin-off.

Making the connection to ‘Breaking Bad’

Based on the teaser trailer for “Better Call Saul” Season 3, it looks like the spin-off show will start exploring its connection with ‘Breaking Bad,” reports the International Business Times of Australia.

Critics are saying that the recent teaser trailer of “Better Call Saul” will serve a purpose of reminding fans that the forthcoming third season will observe more tie-ups with “Breaking Bad.”

Bryan Cranston would actually be in “Better Call Saul” Season 3 not as Walter White but as a director of one episode as already confirmed by Vince Gilligan.

In a recent interview, Gilligan said that they would love to have Bryan direct at least one episode of “Better Call Saul” but it is just a matter of fitting into the hectic schedule of the actor.

The show creator also confirmed that Cranston visited the sets of “Better Call Saul” Season 3. However, he said that Cranston dropped by for a casual meeting as he was in town for a press conference.

Meanwhile, actor Bob Odenkirk, who plays the role of James ‘Jimmy’ McGill in “Better Call Saul” said that the upcoming third season of the show will see innocence getting torn away.

Better Call Saul Season 2

While it was a cryptic quote, to say the least, many critics are saying that it could possibly the season where Jimmy McGill finally turns into Saul Goodman.

This looms very imminently especially with the fact that his brother Chuck McGill, played by Michael McKean, is about to screw him big time for admitting that he tampered with the Mesa Verda files which Chuck caught on a tape recorder.
