Season 2 of the American superhero ensemble drama TV series “Legends of Tomorrow” aired its eighth episode on The CW on December 8, entitled “The Chicago Way,” featuring the unholy alliance between Eobard Thawne, Damien Darhk, and Malcolm Merlyn with 1930s legendary gangster Al Capone in the year 1927 going up against the Legends.
The midseason of “Legends of Tomorrow” Season 2 answered some of the biggest mysteries at the onset of the current season but it also created a lot of mysteries that baffled its fans all the more.
One very intriguing mystery involves Rip Hunter, the captain of the Waverider, played by Arthur Darvill. Back in 1945, the time traveler disappeared during the battle with the Nazis.
Rip Hunter eventually ended up in 1967 where he was shown being a film director and already with an American accent and directing a Rip Hunter film at that, which was quite a big wonder to fans of “Legends of Tomorrow.”
While the character is set to return to his team in episode 9 of “Legends of Tomorrow,” entitled “Raiders of the Lost Arc,” when it airs on January 24, Vixen, played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers, believe that Rip Hunter is already a changed person upon his return so they should all be careful in dealing with him, reports Breathecast.
An evil version?
Fan speculations are rife that there could be a connection of “The Flash” with “Legends of Tomorrow” which hints that the Rip Hunter who came back actually came from a different universe.
In fact, there are rumors going around claiming that the Rip Hunter who is going to return to join the Legends is his evil version.
There are also reports saying that the real Rip Hunter was actually kidnapped by the Legion of Doom based on what happened in the eighth episode.
A trailer for the upcoming ninth episode of “Legends of Tomorrow” Season 2 shows Jax, played by Franz Drameh, trying to cheer Sarah, played by Caity Lotz, up after they failed to rescue Rip Hunter from the Legion of Doom.
Correcting history
It can be recalled that the fall finale of “Legends of Tomorrow” Season 2 saw the first ever face-off between the Legends and the Legion of Doom where the superhero group managed to correct history.
However, Eobard Thawne disclosed that he has the amulets projecting a map that can locate the Spear of Destiny, which can be used to rewrite history. He also mentioned that the Legion of Doom can only use the amulets if they have Rip Hunter. Thus, it seems clear what their motive was in kidnapping Rip Hunter.
When Rip Hunter disappeared, Sarah took over Rip’s place as the team captain saying that it is her responsibility as captain to make sure that everyone gets back on the ship, notes the iTech Post.
Jax assured her the Legion won’t have Rip Hunter for long, saying that when they really want something, they are unstoppable.
He confidently added that they are going to find Rip Hunter and they are going to bring him home. When Sarah asks Jax if it was a promise, he said that it is a prophecy.
Incidentally, for the first time in the DC TV verse on The CW, a four-night crossover happened among four TV series based on DC Comics including “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “Arrow,” and “Legends of Tomorrow.”
The crossover episode between the four shows happened from November 28 beginning with the eight episode of “The Flash” and ended on December 1 with the seventh episode of “Legends of Tomorrow.”
The common title of the crossover episode in each of the four TV series is “Invasion” and since “Legends of Tomorrow” was the final crossover night, it saw the Legends working together with The Flash, Supergirl, and Green Arrow in finally putting an end to the Dominators and their plan for the world.
While Martin Stein, played by Victor Garber, already figured out how the Legends can terminate the Dominators, he was distracted by the aberration he created himself back in 1987.
