‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8 Midseason Finale Showed Stefan Switching Off His Humanity; Damon Kills Sybil After Remembering Elena

The eighth and final season of “The Vampire Diaries” has already reached its winter episode which means it is about to come to its permanent close when the series returns for its second half next year.

It no longer came as a surprise that the Mystic Falls gang is already used to celebrating the Christmas Eve dinner with insanely unexpected vengeful surprises from their enemies.

The mid-season finale episode entitled, “The Next I Hurt Somebody, It Could Be You,” started with Caroline Forbes preparing the Christmas Eve dinner with her fiancé, Stefan Salvatore, and their other friends.

Sybil and Damon Salvatore, who is currently under her control, suddenly came to ruin the evening.

Damon asked his brother, Stefan to come upstairs and have a little talk with him. Unaware of what his brother will do to him, Stefan followed just the same.

Following several baloney talks, Damon quickly stabbed Stefan right through the heart that led to his death.

After Caroline found out what happened, Damon immediately told her that it is Stefan’s initiation to let his brother formally meet the devil and soon-to-be their master, Cade.

Cade, who was the original psychic with his strong-willed sense of morals, had turned into an atrocious devil after suffering from a ruthless punishment where he was burned alive. He considered it an unacceptable death.

Cade painfully promised himself a curse that those evil souls will soon meet their eternal misery with him in hell.

It looks like the time has come for him to take what has been stolen from him for years. Cade has already placed his huge interest in the Salvatore brothers after Sybil had a convincing bargain with him in exchange for her freedom.

Particularly, Cade has seriously expressed his desire for Stefan Salvatore whom he believed he can use in his search for bad souls to punish.

Cade showed to Stefan the bad memories he had long been forgotten for several years because Seline erased them.

In his forgotten memories, Stefan saw Seline spared his life because she felt his pure and innocent heart which she believed he was worthy of a life despite his human blood lust.

Thus, Cade became more convinced to get Stefan under his control. He believed good people can become wicked and that is what he really wants for his new servants.

Stefan finally agreed to the deal after Cade threatened that he will patiently wait for Alaric’s young twins to use instead when they grow up.

The episode ended with Stefan Salvatore switching off his humanity to be a cold-hearted vampire ripper again while his devious brother, Damon Salvatore rides with him on the road out of Mystic Falls.

As Damon invites Stefan to hop in the car and join the ride with him to leave the town for good, his brother appeared to be convinced that it is time for him to depart from the memories he had with their beloved friends especially his supposed-to-be future wife, Caroline Forbes.

Feeling cool, Damon opened their stereo car to sarcastically enjoy how wonderful they spent the Christmas holiday. He even reminded Stefan that it is time for him to switch off his human emotions.

After Stefan saw that they already passed by the Mystic Falls signboard, he already knew that it was time for him to change.

Stefan slowly and calmly closed his eyes and turned himself into his ripper alter-ego as he once again opened his eyes ending the episode with his cynical smirk.

Then Damon looked back at Stefan and tapped him placidly greeting his brother a “Merry Christmas”.

Damon Salvatore remembers Elena Gilbert

The episode also revealed that Damon remembered his memories with the love of his life, Elena Gilbert.

Sybil and Damon were walking in a hallway when Sybil was having a sweet talk with Damon.

Controlled by the siren’s curse, Damon opened Caroline’s gift for him and it was Elena’s necklace. The memories he had with Elena has slowly come back after he placed the necklace to Sybil’s.

Feeling overwhelmed by Damon’s sweetness, Sybil attempted to kiss Damon, unmindful of the vampire’s recurred memories.

Pretending to kiss her, Damon hastily took Sybil’s heart out and left her sitting on a bench dead.

Reports say it has probably affected Damon’s mind since he will no longer serve Sybil anymore and Cade will be his and his brother’s master as the series moves towards such direction.
