“Arrow” Season 5 episode 9 entitled, “What We Leave Behind” shocked fans for a mind-blowing revelation when the show’s midseason finale left a huge cliffhanger. Dinah Laurel Lance, a.k.a the Black Canary, returned to Arrow’s cave and surprised Oliver Queen in disbelief.
After having a heart-to-heart conversation complete with romantic kissing with his current ace reporter girlfriend, Susan Williams, Oliver Queen came back alone to Arrow’s cave.
With great surprise, Oliver saw a familiar face standing in front of him, looking at the Team Arrow’s hero wardrobes.
It was Laurel Lance, portrayed by Katie Cassidy, who turned after she felt that someone came inside the Arrow’s bunker and faced Oliver saying, “Hi Ollie”, reacting like nothing worst happened to her.
The midseason finale left the fans with a grand surprise, ending the scene with Oliver’s reaction of great disbelief.
There are speculations saying that Laurel Lance is really from Earth-1. While this may be true due to the possibility of Flashpoint where The Flash traveled in the past to save his mom and realized that he messed up with the present timeline.
The Flashpoint has also affected the Arrow universe and all the characters are placed in different situations now, which resulted in the resurrection of the Black Canary.
While other reports say that it might be the Earth-2 Black Siren who is a wicked doppelganger of Laurel Lance’s Black Canary seen in the previous episode of “The Flash” Season 3.
Barry hardly fought and caught Earth-2 Laurel Lance and put her in meta-human prison inside Star Labs.
There is a possibility that the Earth-2 Black Siren was not put to meta-human prison when the Flashpoint happened.
Sources say that she probably learned about Oliver Queen and Earth-1 Laurel Lance’s history and then pretended to be like her. But her reason for doing such might be a big question in Arrow’s universe.
It is possible that Oliver Queen will get the impression that the new Laurel Lance may have something to do with Flashpoint or the Lazarus Pit.
However, in an interview with executive producer, Marc Guggenheim, he said that Laurel Lance Earth-1 will remain dead and will never get back to life.
Recalling the Season 4 of “Arrow,” Damien Darhk killed Laurel Lance because of the disobedience of his father, Captain Quentin Lance.
As part of the deal, Damien Darhk will kill Captain Quentin Lance’s remaining daughter if he disobeys all of his malevolent orders.
Truth to be told, it did happen while Team Arrow was in the middle of fighting Damien Darhk and his army of Ghosts inside the prison.
With the betrayal of John Diggles’ brother, Andy, Damien Darhk regained his powers from a mysterious source and giving him the opportunity to kill Laurel Lance without any hesitation and left a message for Quentin Lance.
With the high hopes of saving Laurel Lance, Oliver Queen was able to get her to the hospital but it was too late for him to save his former lover and long-time best friend’s life.
But before Laurel Lance died, she made her emotional goodbye speech to her friends especially leaving a secret message to Oliver Queen which left the fans wondering what were the last words Laurel Lance said to him before the episode ended.
The last words of the dead Laurel Lance might then be possibly connected to her surprise appearance in the latest episode of “Arrow” Season 5.
In the recent video interview via Facebook Live, Stephen Amell, who plays as Oliver Queen and his alter-ego, the Green Arrow, opened up about the unexpected appearance of Laurel Lance.
He said there is something suspicious about the Laurel Lance fans saw at the end of the mid-season finale episode which will be unveiled in the midseason premiere of “Arrow” Season 5.
He also hinted that Team Arrow might notice something strange about the acts of the resurrected Laurel Lance.
Amell also added that the return of Black Canary is a very cool development since the character plays a very important role next to Green Arrow.
According to him, in the comic books, Green Arrow and the Black Canary have an established long-time history together which will never go away.
Meanwhile, as the series returns next year, fans got excited to see a sneak peek at the upcoming episode of “Arrow” Season 5 entitled, “Who Are You?”
