Recent reports about the upcoming sequel to “Jurassic World” have been interesting, and it looks like the new film is going to expand the reach of its plot in some strange new directions. “Strange” may not be the best word here, but the new changes to the plot may definitely strike some fans as odd.
Specifically, it recently came to light that the producers of “Jurassic World 2” are aiming for a more politically-themed sequel, and are going to include some plot elements in this direction. At the same time, the film will reportedly be darker than its predecessor, further raising some questions regarding the producers’ intentions.
Some fans of the “Jurassic” franchise have apparently always seen such subtexts to it, judging by responses, and the news didn’t come as that surprising to many of them. At the same time, some are worried that the new film might spin off into a very different direction, ultimately losing track of what made this franchise so attractive in the first place.
And that, of course, are dinosaurs. On that note, some critics have recently brought up the fact that the film apparently looks at dinosaurs in quite the wrong way, misrepresenting the creatures and sticking to clichéd old beliefs about them that are not really relevant in modern times.
And while that might be true – especially in light of some more recent discoveries about dinosaurs and how they looked – it’s also worth remembering that this is a work of fiction, and is supposed to be highly dramatized. There is no reason to expect the producers of “Jurassic World” to go with a completely realistic representation of dinosaurs in the film, and as long as the creatures look in a way that gets the audience excited, that’s all that really matters.
Some critics have also pointed out that some previous installments in the franchise have at least made attempts to be more accurate about this aspect, but it’s questionable just how much the producers were really trying to portray dinosaurs in a realistic way. It’s much more reasonable to believe that they simply picked features that would work best on the screen and went with that.
With that in mind, it will be interesting to see what the creatures will look like in their new form in “Jurassic World 2”, and whether there will be any changes to the basic ideas behind them. While we do expect the producers to adjust the appearance of their dinosaurs in certain ways, they should also preserve the continuity of the franchise, and that means avoiding any changes that can be seen as too drastic by the fans.
Perhaps another franchise can pop up that will take a more different look at dinosaurs, and paint them in the realistic light that some people apparently want to see. But for now, “Jurassic World 2” will most likely stick to the same ideas that the producers originally developed in the first film.
Given the success of that production, there’s no real reason for them to deviate from the idea either, and we fully expect them to explore some even more interesting – and unrealistic – concepts for dinosaurs that can really get the audience’s adrenaline pumping.
Could we see some recent discoveries in the world of dinosaurs implemented in the new film? According to some, that would be nice to see, but it’s also important to note that the producers can’t realistically change too much once they’re too far into their schedule.
