Star Wars: Episode 8: Fans Trying to Guess Release Date, Studio Expectedly Silent!

It’s probably far too early to talk about the next major installment in the “Star Wars” franchise, but it looks like the recent release of “Rogue One” has inspired some fans to discuss about the possible future developments. It’s highly unlikely that we’re going to get any official information about the next film in the next few months, and it looks like Disney and the film’s producers are particularly adamant about keeping things a secret this time.

With one year to go until the big date, they certainly have plenty of time to get things ready and to prepare to build up the hype among their fans. At the same time, the lack of information will likely drive some fans to follow rumors and speculations without paying them a second thought, and the producers should be careful to avoid that.

“Star Wars” is a franchise that’s particularly susceptible to this risk, and the people behind “Star Wars: Episode 8” are probably well aware of that too. With that in mind, we expect that they will have at least some tiny bits of information prepared to be released over the months in order to keep their fans happy.

We’ve seen an interesting statement by Adam Driver, the actor behind one of the most iconic characters of the last film, Kylo Ren. According to Driver, the next installment in the film will be better off without any trailer at all, leaving fans completely unprepared for what they’re about to get.

As can be expected, not many of the franchise’s followers seem to actually agree with him, and it would indeed be a difficult wait for many fans if they have to go without any trailer or other visual teasers about “Episode 8” at all.

Still, Driver’s idea does have some supporters, and we’d be curious to see if it might actually be a hint about what the producers are planning to do. It’s not completely unreasonable to think that the people behind “Star Wars: Episode 8” might be planning a more unconventional marketing strategy, but trying to promote the film without a trailer still seems like something that has no chance of going over well with the community.

Some publications were quick to share their negative impressions of that suggestion as well, going as far as to call it the worst idea in the history of the franchise. How could it feel to sit down for a “Star Wars” film and not know what you’re going to get indeed?

Members of the community have been entertaining the idea, but mostly in a humorous way, not as anything that they would actually like to see in the next film, it seems. The fact that there is one year left before the film arrives to the big screen has made many fans anxious about the idea of actually having to go that long without any interesting information about it, so the producers should definitely pay attention to what their fans are saying in their online discussions.

In the meantime, a minor detail has grabbed the attention of some fans, as it looks like we might have been given a hint about the possible name of the next installment. Lucasfilm have apparently filed a trademark for the title “Star Wars: Forces of Destiny”, leading many to believe that this is the official working name for “Episode 8”. However, fans should keep in mind that the name could actually be intended for a variety of things, not necessarily the next major installment.
