Rumors Split about iPod Touch 6th Generation: Is the Device Coming after the Holidays, or Are Apple Killing Off the iPod Touch Line Completely

While it’s not rare at all for a popular device to have lots of rumors about it prior to its release, in most cases those rumors at least have some general direction that they’re all following. It’s not that common to see multiple sources claiming completely different things that mutually exclude one another – and the current speculation about the iPod Touch 6G is borderline crazy. There are lots of rumors about the device, but it’s hard to say which ones are more plausible.

On one hand, sources indicate that Apple have been working hard on the new device, and are preparing to launch it shortly after the holidays. According to the same rumor, the new iPod Touch will have specifications close to that of the iPhone 6, possibly featuring an A8 processor and 1 GB of RAM. It’s not clear if the device will match the iPhone 6 exactly, or if it will be slightly less powerful, and both certainly sound credible to some extent.

In addition, Apple are reportedly continuing the trend with the color palette choices for the iPod Touch 6G, offering it in many different vibrant options. Since the line is aimed at younger buyers, this could make sense. The different color choices for the previous iPod Touch models have been received generally warmly, and users seemed to enjoy having the options.

However, on the other hand, some rumors take the story in the exact opposite direction. According to the sources on the opposite side, Apple are not only not going to launch the iPod Touch 6G after the holidays, but they may not launch it at all. If these rumors are true, the company is apparently looking to tighten their range of products in the mobile sector, focusing more actively on the iPhone and iPad.

This could also make sense, as Apple have been expanding the respective lines of these devices lately, giving users more options. The iPhone 6 came out with a special large-sized version, and it’s rumored that Apple are also preparing a cheaper model dubbed the iPhone 6C, which is aimed at the lower ranges of the market, an area where Apple used to have no presence until now.

Apple iPod Touch 6G

It would be interesting to see where the company decides to go with the iPod Touch, but it would certainly be a shame to see them deciding to completely kill it off. There is still potential in the brand name, and lots of people are still willing to buy a dedicated music player, instead of using their phones – but Apple will have to make a really attractive offer to make enough people interested in a device like that in 2015.
