‘Man of Steel 2’ Fan-Made Trailer Shows that Fans Want the Film to be Directed by George Miller Instead of Zack Snyder

A recent fan-made trailer of “Man of Steel 2” that was uploaded to YouTube shows what most fans of the Superman film franchise want – they want George Miller to take over the helm of the movie as director from Zack Snyder.

While there is no doubt that Zack Snyder is a great director, many critics believe that his take on the DC superhero film universe appear to be darker than they really should, which is why the DCEU movies are not making money at the box office as much as their counterparts in Marvel Studios are.

In fact, when “Man of Steel” was released in 2013 as a movie reboot of the Superman film franchise, many thought that it was a dark story on how the man from Krypton became a great superhero on earth.

It was a far cry from the light but nonetheless good portrayal of Superman under the late actor Christopher Reeve for four movies. The third and fourth movies may have been stretched but it was certainly not dark.

The same holds true for the portrayal of Brandon Routh as the Man of Steel in “Superman Returns” which was also light but did not make waves at the box office.

George Miller is the director of “Mad Max Fury Road” also shown in March this year and many fans believe that he would fare better as the man to helm “Man of Steel 2,” reports Movieweb.

The villains fans want

In addition to pushing for George Miller as a possible director for “Man of Steel 2,” the fan-made trailer also showed that fans want the villains of the sequel to be Brainiac and Metallo.

The trailer also brings back most of the original cast members of the first film including Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, and Joel Edgerton as Zod.

There are also reports saying that there would be a lot less of Superman in the upcoming DC movie “Justice League” and also its sequel in order to give more legroom for the Man of Steel for his stand-alone sequel film.

However, these remain as speculations and should be taken with a fine grain of salt.

Director Zack Snyder has been confirmed to wrap up filming for “Justice League” recently and will next focus on “The Last Photograph,” reports Moviepilot.

It is not clear if Snyder shall be tapped again to direct the sequel to “Man of Steel” or “Justice League” but based on the fan-made trailer for “Man of Steel 2,” it seems that fans want a change in the director’s chair to make the films less dark.

Now in active development

Since 2013, Warner Bros has already released three films under the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and they are “Man of Steel,” “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and “Suicide Squad.”

Of the three films, “Man of Steel” made the least in the box office with $668 million. “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” made $873 million while “Suicide Squad” raked in $720 million.

There were reports saying that because each movie cost more than $250 million to make, Warner Bros apparently placed the sequel to “Man of Steel” in the backburner, which came off as a surprise to many fans and critics.

Critics believe that Warner Bros decision to relegate Superman to the back of the herd was not a good one given the popularity of the Man of Steel and his importance in the DC canon.

With recent reports saying that “Man of Steel 2” is now in active development, it seems that Warner Bros has come to its senses on the overall importance, not to mention popularity, of Superman in the DC universe.

In addition to Superman’s pull and clout in the DC universe, Warner Bros also had to rethink its decision when “Man of Steel” turned out to be the most positively reviewed film in the DCEU thus far with 55% compared to 27% for “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and 26% for “Suicide Squad.”
