With the accelerated release date of “The Incredibles 2” by one year, production for the sequel to the 2004 hit animated movie is expected to go in full swing by next year under the helm of writer and director Brad Bird.
From its previous playdate of June 21, 2019, “The Incredibles 2” swapped release dates with “Toy Story 4” and shall now be hitting global cinemas on June 15, 2018.
Director Brad Bird has previously said that he would not come back on the sequel if he does not find a very good or compelling story to make him return.
The fact that Bird is at the helm of “The Incredibles 2” also means that he has found a perfect story for the animated movie.
Most of the characters, or the voice actors, from the first movie, shall also be returning for the sequel including Samuel L. Jackson, who voiced Frozone, Sarah Vowell, who voiced Violet, among others.
However, Dash Parr shall no longer be voiced by Spencer Fox since the character has aged already. Reports have it that Raymond Ochoa will be lending his voice to the character in “The Incredibles 2,” details E! Online.
In a recent pronouncement, Brad Bird hinted that some of the elements in the script are connected to ideas that didn’t make it into the original film. It was basically his idea and he just expanded it to make it suitable to “The Incredibles 2.”
Bird explained that he had a bunch of ideas that he wanted to put into “The Incredibles” but they just did not fit. He said that there was a pile of ideas that were left over from the first movie.
The director added that there were little scenes and things that he was interested in. He wanted to come up with sort of an over-arching idea that connected to the first film that went somewhere different, which took him a little more time, reports Comingsoon.net.
A toss-up between Jack-Jack and Dash
As far as the main villain of the movie is concerned, the rumors are divided into two. There have been previous reports saying that Jack-Jack will be the sequel’s main villain because he cannot control his shape-shifting powers.
His vulnerability would allow the villain Syndrome to come in and serve as his mentor and sort of become the black sheep of the Parr family.
However, there are also reports saying that Dash Parr, the older son, shall be the movie’s main villain because he will be in his teenage and rebellious phase who shuns parental control.
But all these remain as speculations pending the confirmation or denial from Brad Bird or Disney itself.
Focusing on the characters and their relationship
Bird also confirmed recently that the storyline of the sequel to the 2004 animated family superhero movie “The Incredibles,” will focus again on the characters, who are basically the Parr family.
Bird explained that although “The Incredibles 2” is a superhero movie, it would not be like most superhero films these days where the focus is on the powers of the character or characters.
He said that the power themselves are not interesting because it is the characters who are interesting and how they react to having those powers is where the storyline of “The Incredibles 2” will be revolving around.
When “The Incredibles” was released in 2004, it went on to rake in $633 million in the box office, which brings to question why Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios have decided to make a sequel more than 12 years later.
Meanwhile, the switch in the scheduled playdates of “Toy Story 4” and “The Incredibles 2” was apparently because of the accelerated production schedule for “The Incredibles 2.”
