Despite previous reports that fans of the iconic “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise would not get to see actor Johnny Depp reprising his role in the newest installment, we’ve recently seen claims of the contrary. It now looks like Johnny Depp is not only reprising his role, but the writers apparently have quite a lot planned for him as well.
Things are apparently going smoothly behind the scenes, and we’ve been hearing various positive reports about the current state of the film. Filming is halfway through, according to reports, and there are no visible delays in sight. On the other hand, we’re still getting some conflicting rumors about the involvement of Johnny Depp.
If the actor is indeed taken out of the new film, reports claim that this would be motivated by the producers’ desire to get a fresh face on the screen instead of opting for someone fans have seen over and over again. It’s questionable how much of this could be true though – after all, Captain Jack Sparrow is pretty much the face of this franchise, and the most iconic character in it. Removing him just for the sake of replacing him with a new face could result in disaster for the producers.
Still, recent previews for the film don’t give any indications that Johnny Depp is going away, as we’ve seen a trailer that hinted towards a mission for the Captain. We still don’t know the exact details of the new film’s story, but we also don’t expect the producers to spoil that too early before its planned release date.
It does look like we’re about to see yet another thrilling story about the Captain going after a mysterious artifact, one that could possibly make him more powerful than ever before. The implications of this for the plot are still not clear, but we would be curious to see a revised Captain Jack Sparrow, one capable of more than his previous versions.
If the producers are indeed looking for ways to make the new film fresher, particularly with regards to the leading role, that would be a great way for them to do that without compromising the core values of the franchise. It would allow them to push things forward in a significant way while also keeping their original fans happy, and in the end it should result in a pretty large audience for the new film.
We’ve also seen reports of various prominent names playing alongside Johnny Depp for this installment, such as Orlando Bloom and Javier Bardem, so it does look like the producers are going all out and are trying to do their best to realize the full potential of this sequel.
“Pirates of the Caribbean” has gone through quite a lot as a franchise, including some less than successful installments which made fans question the future of the series. This sequel has the potential to shoot the franchise back to the top of its popularity though, so hopefully we’re going to see the producers do the best with what they have.
There is half a year left to go before the film hits the screen, so we’re probably going to get a large number of additional reports over the next few months. It looks like the producers are putting a lot of effort into the marketing of the film and are working hard to promote it, so there should be no shortage of information for fans.
