“Bates Motel” could see some shocking changes in its upcoming episodes, and it’s possible that the producers are planning to change the face of the show permanently. Whether or not this will fly over well with their fans depends on the exact nature of the changes of course, but the reports we’re hearing so far have been a bit worrying.
Multiple murders are possibly coming up, among other things, and recent rumors indicate that Norman could take the lives of Romero and several other characters. This alone would be a significant change to the show, but there’s apparently even more that the producers are planning to do.
Now, it’s true that “Bates Motel” is no stranger to drama and shocking developments, and the showrunners have already made that clear plenty of times before. However, there is a certain point up to which fans will feel comfortable with such developments, and after that it might get too much for the tastes of most followers.
This depends on what the writers are planning to do other than the rumored murders. If they leave things at that, it might allow them to continue the show and mostly preserve its integrity; but there are rumors that more characters could depart the production in upcoming episodes, ultimately turning it into something completely different from what fans are used to so far.
There are other theories among fans, however. It’s possible that the producers want to introduce those changes because they realize that certain components of the story are becoming too worn out and need to be revised, such as the relationship between Norman and Norma.
The producers already did quite a lot on that front by killing Norman’s mother, but she doesn’t seem to be completely out of the picture yet. Not only that, but it looks like they’re actually planning to explore her character in more detail now that she’s gone, contrary to what some fans might expect.
Some of the changes planned for the upcoming episodes will apparently bring the show closer to its original inspiration, the film “Psycho”. Fans have been mostly excited about that announcement, but at the same time we’ve heard some skeptical opinions, with some fans claiming that the producers should do their best to define their own unique style and avoid copying “Psycho” too much.
It doesn’t sound like they are actually planning to copy the original work though, but are rather doing their best to take inspiration from it in an appropriate manner, respecting the huge legacy of the film and building on what Hitchcock achieved.
Other than that, we’ve also heard rumors that Norman could possibly target Marion and Madeleine. It looks like this won’t actually be a very shocking development for many fans, judging by current responses, and some may actually even enjoy seeing them depart the production.
Norman also has some dangers to look out for, particularly from the direction of Romero who is far from over the death of Norma, and is out for blood.
Whether there will be a major conflict between the two characters is early to tell, but it’s definitely one possible major point of development the producers could hook on to, and we’d be excited to see the show move in that direction. “Bates Motel” doesn’t exactly lack a significant amount of conflict between its characters, but a little extra drama could never hut the show’s style.
